Gaming kid is a smarter kid

Parenting is a hard work, that’s is true, one of the most common issues I see and have experienced with my kids, is that somehow gaming is related to degradation or lack of development, so let me just bring an example, my own so called evolution.
Until the age of 9 I had no idea what PC is, and until 12 I was dreaming of laying my hands on one, so I did what every kid would do, I frustrated my parents to get us (me and 2 of my smaller brothers) a piece, and so it was, with united forces we got ourselves a PC, Intel 486, Windows 3.11, yeah baby!
We would game the hell out of it, until my mid bro did something , and it wouldn’t load the games directory anymore, alas! Determined to get the gaming on, I rushed to my friend’s who had PC, actually there was only one, and beg his father to help me out. That evening I’ve learned what Ms-Dos is, how to list folders, and what Windows 3.11 is, I’ve discovered arj (archivation feature) and that this metal box(the PC) has some decent stuff under the hood. One year later, I was troubleshooting by myself.
Years have passed and we have moved, by the way that was 4th grade. Around 7th grade I’ve discovered that English class, as a second language, that year was a disaster and I was a solid F.
During that year a friend of mine brought me a turn based game,

Heroes of Might and Magic 2, as you may know, there is a lot of reading in it, so by the end of the second year, I have natively mastered English (to a certain level), and winning the annual speed spelling game, my English teacher was amazed.
When you enjoy learning, it’s a game, and gaming is learning, yes not every game is as learning focused but eventually you gain crucial skills, whether it’s perception, reaction, logic or real time decisions, it all counts in.
So, as a parent today, I’m letting my kids game (less violent games, but constructive ones, such as Minecraft are welcome), and even enjoy playing with them, they are 4 and 7 years old, and are proficient with the PC and browsing, do not prevent them from blending is with the computerized future.
