IIS graces the year of giving by conducting a Cinema for a Cause

By Waahiba Nadeem Siddiqui, Junior Reporter at the Light House

As a part of the annual activities done for a worthy cause IIS decided to add one more- ‘Cinemascope’ was held for the entire school with purposes both educational and recreational along with teaching students the importance of generosity and giving back to society. All the proceeds from this initiative went to the ‘Dubai Cares’, a philanthropic organization working to improve children’s access to quality primary education in developing countries, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The Cinemascope for Grades 6–9 was held on 4th May 2017 during regular school hours (1st to 4th periods) wherein students were taken to the auditorium by their respective class teachers and were shown the movie ‘A Beautiful Mind’ about Nobel Laureate (in Economics) John Nash and his struggle to deal with schizophrenia and how it affected his life and the lives of those around him. The students watched intently and enthusiastically throughout the show and after the movie ended, they received the popcorn and juice that they had long awaited.

All-in-all this was an enlightening and entertaining session that not only helped students and staff take a break from their crazy schedules but also embedded values of sympanthy, empathy and philanthropy in them.
