I’m In Love With Cereal Guy

In my sophomore year of high school, I saw a video of a guy eating a bowl of cereal. You might be wondering, “Why the hell was he videoing himself eating cereal??” Well, let me tell you. In my early high school years there was a Facebook trend going around where someone would make a status saying something like “If I get 100 likes on this post, I will post a video of me singing.” I thought it was the most ridiculous thing, and apparently, so did Cereal Guy. I don’t remember who had added who but Cereal Guy and I were Facebook friends for quite awhile. After seemingly getting fed up with all the videos of people singing, Cereal Guy posted a status on Facebook saying “If I get (however many) likes on this post, I will post a video of me eating a bowl of cereal.” He was really just trying to poke fun at the people who posted things like that. But he actually ended up getting way too many likes on that post so he ended up actually posting a video of himself eating a bowl of cereal. For some reason, that video made me laugh way more than it should have. I ended up messaging Cereal Guy and we got to know eachother a little bit. Cereal Guy is 3 years older than me. At the time, my mother did NOT want me anywhere near any older guys. So the only way I could actually meet this witty guy in person was at church. This may be confusing and sound strange. Let me explain. I had been going to a youth group at a local church with my best friend and my mother simply dropped us off and picked me up later. I managed to convince Cereal Guy to come to youth group that night so we could meet. Needless to say, it was awkward and I was shy and I could tell he didn’t like meeting new people. We snuck away from youth group and kissed a few times. Then, me being the immature young girl that I was, just stopped talking to him. I don’t know why. I really don’t have a good excuse. I suppose I just wasn’t into actual serious relationships at that point.

A few years later, in my senior year of high school, I applied for a part time job working at a local restaurant. When I went in to talk to the manager, I realized Cereal Guy worked there. But I wasn’t worried about it. I knew that what happened a few years ago was past us and we’d be mature about everything. Well I ended up getting the job in August 2013. In October 2013 on Halloween, Cereal Guy and I began dating. As it turns out, he’s the reason I got that job. He made sure I got it because he still had feelings for me (how cute, right??).

Now, about a year and a half later, I am still with Cereal Guy and I can genuinely say that I am the happiest I have ever been in my life. I felt like sharing this story because today marks his great grandparent’s 65th anniversary. He told me today, “I think you and I should try for 65+ years together like my great grandparents. What do you think babe, you ready for that?”

This is the most simple yet my most favorite love story. What makes it better is that it’s my own.
