Does fear of something make you sick? Then you probably have developed a “phobia” of that particular thing.

Does liking a specific thing make you overwhelmed? If so, you may have a “philia” for that thing.

Let’s know about 4 common, yet lesser-known phobias and philias of people today.

Extreme fear of darkness is called Nyctophobia. People with this phobia have trouble being alone in darkness; on the other hand, some people find serenity in darkness and love to enjoy this solely and are known as Nyctophiles.

Acrophobia makes people afraid of heights. Experiencing panic attacks or feeling of spinning (Vertigo) is common in acrophobia. On the contrary, love for high altitudes like mountains or skyscrapers is known as Acrophilia.

Anxiety about large water bodies like the ocean or sea is what Thalassaophobia is. Contrarily, people who are extremely fond of seas, are called Thalassophiles.

Lastly going to share about such a phobia, which the majority of us have consciously or subconsciously experienced in different situations of our lives. That’s the fear of speaking publicly or Glossophobia. On a different note, Glossophiles are known as language enthusiasts with a love for the in-depth study of different languages.

So, what are your phobias and philias? Let me know through comments.
