A fairly typical example of middle class romanticisation of the working class. Whereas we all know we would get a “clip round the ear” from our parents for swearing (as opposed to middle class parents who take a more liberal “it’s only words” approach), the author seems to think this is a proud element of working class culture. A somewhat patronising and romantic vision that clearly articulates a distant and detached view of the working class. The middle class “I’m just like you really” interpretation of the working class writ large.
