What are you talking about Vicki?

Why I decided to start trying to write and what these posts will be about

--

First things first, this isn’t my first attempt at doing this, and by this, I mean attempting to start writing. I tried starting a design related blog back when I was in college doing my undergrad and failed badly. So badly I forgot it happened until I started working on this one. Time has passed however and I’m going to give it another attempt so let’s talk about why?

  1. I like writing! Oddly, I know! I enjoyed writing many years ago when I was in school and knew much bigger words. Writing allows you to think about a topic and muse on it for a while, formulating an opinion and an argument. I’m not great at that out loud but I’m hoping that doing it more on my laptop will make me slightly better and forming cohesive sentences using my mouth rather than my fingers.
  2. I’m starting a masters in September. I’ll try to discuss why I am doing that to myself in another post but mainly I love design and decided that a part-time masters in UX design while working as a product designer would be good for me. As for how writing this blog links? I wanted to get back to thinking and learning about design to prepare for starting the masters so why not?
  3. I want to do it. The most simple reason really! I’ll most likely be the only person to read these blogs but that’s okay cause I’m writing them for me! For the reasons above mostly, to learn about design and to research different topics as well as formulate opinions and write about my take on these and perhaps and tricks along the way. This blog is mostly for me, current me and the me of five years ago who had no clue what UX was or where my career was going. For this reason, I’m going to focus on the things I wish I’d learned at the start of my career and some tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way.

So there you have it, three rather selfish but honest reasons why I’ve decided to start this little writing project! I hope if anyone does read these posts that maybe you gain something from them. If not a little extra knowledge I hope you gain the confidence that if I can have the balls to try to do this you clearly can too!
