Breaking new ground
I couldn’t be more excited to join the Kleiner Perkins team and build the next chapter of this incredible firm.
I was first exposed to Silicon Valley in 2003 when I started my PhD at Stanford. That’s when I encountered the magic of this place, where a few individuals with the right idea and the right backing can transform the world. I knew then, that I wanted to be a core part of growing this ecosystem.
My journey took me on an amazing path: from building an early stage company (Solar Junction) post PhD, to venture (at Khosla Ventures), to being part of an iconic company through hyper-growth (Dropbox). I learned a lot about building and scaling products and teams on this journey. Most importantly I realized that I wanted to be on the venture side of building companies.
So, in 2015 I took the plunge and joined Index Ventures to expand and strengthen its US leadership. I’m very proud of the team we have built and the progress we have made. The team has grown substantially and we’ve backed exceptional entrepreneurs across continents.
Along the way, I’ve made friends across the venture community. One of the closest was Mamoon Hamid, with whom I worked together on Slack and Intercom. It was clear to me that we had the same views on building companies and venture capital firms. We both wanted to build a firm with two humble, lean, mean and focused venture and growth teams that collaborate closely and support companies hands on from inception to scale.
So when Mamoon and the rest of the Kleiner Perkins team came calling, I was excited. Kleiner Perkins is one of the most iconic firms in the business, having backed Google, Amazon, Netscape, and others early on. This history sets a high bar that is both thrilling and representative of the kind of impact that we can have on the world. The foundation of this institution and the platform that’s been built across the venture and growth practices are unparalleled. I couldn’t be more excited to be part of the team that’s building Kleiner’s next chapter.
