Research hacking: organising your notes for writers, historians and journalists

I’ve written three books so far — none of them have been picked up by a publisher, but the process has been a great learning experience. And that learning continues everyday.

When I started I struggled to manage my research, to know how best to organise my notes and be able to review them while writing. I googled it extensively but couldn’t find the answers I needed.

Through trial and error I started to find my own way. One hack I discovered is to combine my Kindle highlights, Evernote and Scrivener. I’ve made a brief video and posted it above which shows my work flow. It may not work for everyone but it keeps me sane and makes it easy to stay on top of my research.

I’d love to know how you do it. How do you manage your research notes? How do you stay organised? Drop me a line and let me know, I’m always open to improving my ever evolving system.
