Digital calipers are ideal tools when it comes to taking correct measurement of objects. Also known as electronic calipers, they come with no line graduated measuring scale. The tool has been provided with two upper and two lower jaws, out of which one is a moveable lower jaw, and one is a movable upper jaw.

The main scale of Vernier caliper runs along with the beam.

Let us get to know more about calipers.

Why are calipers preferred over rulers?

In a word, accuracy is the only thing for which calipers are preferred over rules. A ruler is fine for general measurement, but for precise and accurate measurement, it is better to rely on a digital caliper.

What is the difference between digital calipers and dial calipers?

Digital calipers are easier to read. In addition, they are often not more expensive than dial ones.

How to take the correct measurement through calipers?

Zero the calipers

Before taking any measurement, make sure to zero the calipers. If you skip this step, measurements may not be accurate. Every time, you take a new measurement set the button to zero. Some advanced calipers automatically come to zero position.

Taking outside dimension

To measure the outside dimension of an object, use outside jaws of the caliper. Make sure that the object being measured is parallel to the jaws. You can also use them for measuring the thickness of an object. Just make sure that the object is perpendicular to the jaws.

How to measure depth?

To measure the depth, use depth gauge from one surface to the next. Keeps the calipers perpendicular to the surface being measured.

This way, you can take the measurements of an object accurately with the help of Vernier caliper.
