How frequent do you glance at the mirror? Once per day? Twice? What do you stare at? Your hair style, your face, your clothes? How often do you look at the mirror to examine the status of the person you’re holding within? Long time ago I noticed that avoided my own eye contact. Trying to look at myself in the eye was so annoying, hearing voices of blame, of accusations and of dislikes. Day after day I started to look at myself in the mirror and to listen to the voices and converse with them. I invited them to decent talks with specific evidences, refusing insults, humiliation and mockeries.
Making peace with myself was a tough journey, it required from me hours of journaling, many sessions with my Counselor in addition to practicing meditation and mindfulness.
Now, when I look at myself at the mirror I still hear voices, words of praise and encouragement. I hear cheers. I no longer hide from myself. I embrace it with grace and love.
