The OnePlus 8 offers good performance, a long battery life, and 5G that cost relatively little with the only downside being a smaller screen compared to other devices.

The OnePlus 8 is a high-end smartphone that delivers good performance, long battery life, and 5G connectivity at an affordable price. The one notable compromise is its camera.

The OnePlus 8 is the latest smartphone from a Chinese company that offers a lot of value for money. It’s well-built, has both a good camera and software, and runs on Android 9 Pie with OxygenOS. However, it doesn’t have the best camera in this price range.

The more affordable OnePlus phone line is known for its reputation as being a nimble device that’s missing out on some key features while maintaining solid performance. This is true of the OnePlus 8, as it courts a new audience of higher-end users that want more features & functions than most phones on the market.

The OnePlus 8 is an excellent Android phone with a top-of-the-line processor, a big battery, and a gorgeous display. The processor and battery are the main highlights that make the OnePlus 8 stand out from its competitors. The OnePlus 8 is a high-quality Android phone, but it’s not going to break the bank like other top Android phones. It’s been released at a place that lets most people enjoy the phones and they offer great features.

Design

The newest OnePlus phone, the OnePlus 8, was recently released. Many can agree that it has a sleek design but some also noticed changes in its unique look. For instance, the pop-up selfie cam on the OnePlus 7 Pro is gone, and with it comes a teardrop notch housing the front camera. The OnePlus 8 has a punch-hole cutout on the left corner of the display where the selfie camera used to be. It also reduces the top and bottom bezels so you can maximize your screen space.

Another departure from past OnePlus phones is that the 8 will feature an angled screen — where the sides of the display wrap across the top and bottom rows. When a phone has flat-screen and rounded edges, it can be difficult to hold it. This is not ideal when you want to carry this phone in your hand all day. The sleek design of the OnePlus 8 makes your phone’s screen hard to slip out of your hands, even with its sharpness. All the curved edges on the OnePlus 8 make it easy to accidentally tap on something you wouldn’t be trying to. You should launch fewer apps or find out how to use your device’s software features in your own hands if you want better results.

OnePlus 8 review

With a 6.3-inch screen, the OnePlus 8 is taller than the iPhone 11 (5.94 inches) and Galaxy S20 (5.9 inches). It also has a significantly smaller footprint than other phones with similar screen sizes like the iPhone 8 Plus and Galaxy Note10+. The OnePlus 8 has a thick coat that makes it easy to slip into your pocket, unlike the competition. The iPhone 11 is a bit lighter, so you’ll still have some weight in your pockets.

While Samsung’s latest phones stick to common color schemes, choosing from a handful of pre-set options, the OnePlus 8 mixes things up with a choice between two color schemes: Glacial Green and Interest. The Gorilla Glass back of the OnePlus 8 blends from cool purple hues at the top of the device to a warm pink below. Other colors present on this phone include black, blue, and gold. The OnePlus 8’s smooth, polished surface is more fingerprint resistant and less likely to become dirty.

Display

With a price of $699, this OnePlus 8 screen refreshes 120 times per second. This is not quite as fast as the $899 OnePlus 8 Pro model, but it is noticeably faster than any other phone on the market.

I don’t think the differences between the two are that noticeable. The Pro model just has smoother scrolling and an HD video mode. The fingerprint sensor is also on the screen, which is nice. My eyes were not able to keep up with the screen as it moved at a much faster pace, which caused it to be blurry until I fixed this by using the phone alongside a less- (with its refresh rate turned down). The OnePlus 8 lets you enjoy the benefits of faster scrolling while maintaining the same overall cost. And the way it works on Samsung’s S20 phones is the same as how it works on your OnePlus 8.

The OnePlus 8 has a bright AMOLED display with a maximum brightness of 1,100 nits. This is great for when you need to see your phone clearly in bright sunlight. I also never needed to max out the brightness and drain the battery which is a problem sometimes with phones that have AMOLED displays.

I wanted to compare the OnePlus 8 and Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus, but all I could find were trailers for those phones. Whenever you want to preview a device, make sure to see it in action before buying or selling the phone. The color pallet is important and you never know what each phone can offer in this area until they’re side by side. The colors on the S20 Plus looked more vivid, but they had a bluish cast that was accentuated when genres like James Bond or Madame Tussaud’s jelly cats were featured in dark scenes.

Cameras

Users of the OnePlus 8 Pro experience a bigger tradeoff than the average phone owner: while they have four lenses, including a telephoto lens, users of the OnePlus 8 only have three. This is because one of them isn’t in use. Instead, the 48-megapixel main shooter with its f/175 aperture and 16MP ultra-wide camera is joined by a 2MP macro lens. When trying to take shots that require a high level of detail, you need to make sure that you can do so. However, when you use digital zoom (zoom in), there may be noise introduced into the image.

If you often take photos of your subject where they’re moving in close, the macro lens might be a useful tool. However, at the same time, it’s also important to have a good zoom lens on your cell phone. If you have one of these lenses that are set to perform this task, then I appreciate its capabilities.

When I first look at these photos on my OnePlus 8, they don’t appear blurry at all. However, when I checked out the photos on my computer and viewed them up close, it was clear that most of them had a lot more blurriness than I anticipated. The color and brightness on the OnePlus 8 are incredible, especially when taking macro shots. It can help you discover what exactly it means by giving you a range of advanced settings for controlling exposures and ISO quality.

OnePlus’s 8 can’t always compete with rival devices when it comes to camera quality. Compared to phones like the Galaxy S20 Plus, the 8 doesn’t have a telephoto lens and thus has limited zoom capabilities. I have the S20 Plus on hand in case of an emergency. It provides a lot of battery life, which I’m sure you’ll appreciate during these rough times! The battery life is also a nice touch.

This shot of the Oakland skyline from across the San Leandro Channel shot at a 2x zoom looks generally the same on the OnePlus 8, as it does on the S20. But focus on building in the background, and you can see that they stand out more sharply. The S20 Plus Camera captures a wide variety of colors and makes it easy to see the nuances in outdoor scenes.

Performance

The OnePlus 8 supports the Snapdragon 865, a chip that offers improved performance and power efficiency than the Snapdragon 855. It is also one of the more popular options coming out this year.OnePlus has been providing its phones with octa-core processors for a while now, using the Snapdragon 865 in ‘early 2018’ and the Snapdragon 845 in ‘mid-2018’. In recent months they released their first phone with a 10Gb/s modem which is capable of delivering an astounding 12GB of RAM. The OnePlus 8 features 12GB of RAM as well as 256GB of onboard storage. It’s a powerful smartphone that’s more than capable of handling even the most demanding tasks.

The OnePlus 8 scored a 32,062 score on Geekbench 5 and showed great performance even with its Snapdragon 845 processor. For the 8th generation of the OnePlus, its 3.387 multicore scores put it squarely in the top most-performing Android phones seen this year. For example.

The OnePlus 8 scored 3,251 on Geekbench 5, beating the iPhone 11 in one aspect. You can see that the gap between iPhones has been shrinking over time — whether or not it’s significant is up to you. iPhone 11 Pro beats OnePlus 8 by default, with its impressive two-core result. The iPhone 11 has a better one-core result: 1,333 versus 920 for the OnePlus 8.

On graphics performance, the OnePlus 8 compared well to other Snapdragon 865-powered phones and produced a score of 1,322 frames 21 fps on the GFX Bench Aztec Ruins Vulkan test. Now that we have a sense of where the Galaxy S20 (1,319) and LG V60 (1,313) stand against the iPhone 11 and its 1,481-frame result, it’s more clear why Apple has such a high-quality camera.

Battery life and charging

The new OnePlus 8 comes with a 4,300-mAh battery — much bigger than the one you get with the 7T and more than the 8P by quite a margin. phones like the OnePlus 8 have revolutionary battery life, but they are perhaps a bit too dependent on their sometimes outdated hardware. This can result in poor performance when it matters most.

The OnePlus 8 lasted an average of 11 hours and 4 minutes when it was tested by Tom’s Guide. Its battery life is comparable to other phones and allows for work without having to worry about power. When compared to other current-generation smartphones, the OnePlus 8 has impressive battery life. Our testing showed it lasts around 11 hours in heavy use-and it often outperforms their other phones as well.

As you might already know, OnePlus likes to experiment with different refresh rates on the OnePlus 8. 60Hz is the default refresh rate but you can also choose 90Hz or 120Hz.

This leads to a fine judgment of battery life and it is recommended that those who will be playing games or watching videos turn off the hardware animation option to improve battery life.

It is not unusual for a smartphone to result in lower battery performance when it’s working at an elevated frame rate. However, the average result for phones with these settings is 9 hours and 55 minutes, which is more like what we see on average smartphones. OnePlus’ new OnePlus 8 has many impressive features, one of which is a promising battery life that lasts for up to 4 hours under light use. Some users might find the trade-in time more than fair if they live in a heavy usage area like me — for me, it’s only about three hours.
