With the rise of affordable handsets in this competitive market, there are plenty of options for people who are looking for a handset that has more features than just great design. For example, Samsung Galaxy A7. The Oppo Reno 10x Zoom proves their worth in terms of handsets. This device is a great compromise between cost and quality.

We found the Oppo A72 to offer a pleasing balance of performance and camera quality for an affordable price. It might not be a jaw-dropping revelation, but it’s a nice surprise all the same. Despite its large 5,000mAh battery, the battery life isn’t amazing. The display is good without breaking any new ground for a phone in this price range.

One of the main competitors for this phone is Nokia and Motorola, and also Chinese brands such as Xiaomi, Realme, and other competitors.

One of the best aspects of this phone is that it’s more than satisfactory. It’s worth mentioning that it isn’t a perfect phone, but for the price you pay for this device, it is pretty good.

Oppo A72 Price and availability

The Oppo A72 is available on a range of websites and at the time of writing, the cheapest deals are around £219 / AU$299 SIM-free. Keep checking this page for the latest price points! EE, Carphone Warehouse, and Virgin Media are currently offering some great deals on the phone here in the UK. Though, if you live in America then unfortunately you’ll have to wait until it is available before you can purchase it. This is not uncommon for Oppo phones though.

The A9 is the latest in the line that has been created very much at the lower end of the price spectrum making it a competitor to handsets such as Motorola. Nokia, Realme, and Oppo — the A5 launched earlier this year is a little bit cheaper if you want to spend even less on your next smartphone.

Design

The Oppo A72 is a budget smartphone that does not look like one. The big screen (with a 6.4″ display), thin frame (8.9mm), and stylish glossy back panel make it the perfect accessory for anyone who wants to look good at work and needs to keep track of their day-to-day tasks.

Most modern-day smartphones have a camera bump, but you kind of get used to it after a while. The only notable aspects in the top left corner of the screen are an awkwardly placed punch-hole for the camera and an obnoxiously large notch.

We like the Black and Purple model although we can see how it might not be for everyone. We also loved the Red and Silver model and would recommend that one to anyone looking for a more powerful, business-oriented design. It’s not for nothing that the words “budget price” come to mind before you even touch the laptop, as it doesn’t have waterproofing and it has slim bezels. But with such an impressive display and performance, some may find themselves surprised at how affordable it is.

The phone feels nice in the hand, although it might not be made out of high-quality materials. However, as soon as you start to touch the Oppo A72, at that point you get the first impression that this is not your average flagship phone. That’s not a new iPhone or Galaxy Note, but we’re pretty happy with how the phone is designed and put together.

It’s nice that the new USB-C is used as the power and data transfer port rather than the old-fashioned micro USB. You also get a headphone jack, so you don’t need to invest in wireless earbuds. A fingerprint scanner has been positioned just by the power key, which can now be used to unlock your phone straight away without having to enter any passwords.

Display

The Oppo A72 features a 6.5-inch 1080 x 2400 display with a 20:9 aspect ratio and a pixel density of 367ppi. It can handle key tasks, from browsing the web to watching YouTube videos or chatting on Skype. Oppo had to cut some corners to achieve this price point, but the screen was not one of them.

This panel has a great display and is at a very affordable price. The only problem might be that the brightness did not meet the level of some more expensive phone displays, but other than that it offers a great experience.

The refresh rate on this monitor is a little below some of the very high-end monitors out there at the moment, capping at 60Hz. That won’t make a huge difference for most people, but if you usually switch from something with a much higher refresh rate, you may find that it’s noticeably less smooth.

We put the Oppo A72 screen through all the usual tests in all the standard apps and found its color reproduction & crispness to be up to a standard that we were more than happy with. You can change the color temperature of your screen in display settings. You have the option of a cooler or warmer look to suit your taste.

If you need to do some gaming or some binge-watching on the Oppo A72, then the screen will serve you perfectly well, with minimal lag or ghosting. If you view something in full-screen mode, the software does not attempt to hide the punch-hole notch in the corner, but it’s not too much of a distraction.

Camera

The days of terrible phone cameras are behind us and 2020 is going to be even better you can get a cheap smartphone with a camera that can take great pics.

Although this camera is not as good as on a top-tier flagship phone, it probably still creates pictures that are better than normal. Plus, you can save money out of your wallet by buying this one.

Taking the Oppo A72 for a walk around the neighborhood, we took some great shots. The phone’s camera had fantastic image quality and saturation in sunlight. You can take a high-quality photo in any kind of lighting condition with this app.

While we think there are better phones around at this price point the Nokia 5.3, for example — the difference isn’t a huge one, and as long as your phone is zooming in on details you won’t notice any difference.

The quality of the photo you take will depend on what kind of camera you have. If you’re planning to share your photo on social media, then just about any phone should suffice. For printing at home, though, make sure to invest in a high-end smartphone with a more sophisticated camera.

The 48MP main camera, 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and 2MP depth camera do not have optical zoom. If you need to take a wider photo, use the 8MP option. The camera is designed to automatically adjust for different lighting such as indoor or outdoor to provide the person who is taking the photo with a quality finish”

There’s a dedicated low-light mode that the phone often switches to by itself. This allows you to take usable photos even in dark settings. The camera typically takes several exposure readings before the photo is taken and gives you enough light to see what’s happening in it. In most situations, it’s adequate for illuminating dark areas, but you’ll notice brighter spots in your photos that take away from the image. It doesn’t compare to more expensive models from Apple, Google, or Xiaomi in nighttime photography.

The A72 captures photos that are a little better than the A5 in terms of detail, but it’s a bit more expensive.

In the end, you’re going to get what you pay for and while the Oppo A72 is not bad in terms of pictures, this is one of those areas where doubling the money will make a significant difference. Unless you need the highest possible image quality for things like professional photography or heavy-duty editing, the Oppo A72 is more than good enough.
