Section 1: The Child Who Was

The Dursley family, who reside in the unremarkable town of Little Whinging, is introduced at the beginning of the novel. When odd things begin to happen around them, including owls flying during the day and people wearing bizarre clothes, they are terrified. Harry Potter, a little child who moved in with the Dursleys when his parents passed away, is presented to us. Despite the Dursleys’ best efforts to keep Harry from receiving them, he starts to receive strange letters on his eleventh birthday.

Chapter 2: The Glass Disappearing

The Dursley family mistreats Harry, especially his cousin Dudley, who torments him nonstop. Harry learns that he has the ability to cause odd things to happen when he becomes angry one day while attempting to flee from Dudley and his gang. This results in an event where he inadvertently makes the glass of a zoo snake’s tank evaporate, releasing the snake.

Chapter 3: The Unsigned Letters

The Dursleys flee to a secluded cottage on a small island in an attempt to avoid the deluge of letters intended to Harry. On his eleventh birthday, though, a giant by the name of Hagrid barges in and informs Harry that he has been admitted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and that he is a wizard. Hagrid also shares with Harry the story of his parents’ demise and how, as a young child, he escaped an attack by the evil wizard Voldemort.

Chapter 4: The Keykeeper

Hagrid leads Harry to Diagon Alley, a secret thoroughfare in London where wizards and witches purchase enchanted goods. Harry discovers more about the wizarding world and his parents here. Hagrid leads Harry to Gringotts, the wizarding bank, and purchases him his first wand. They also go to Ollivanders, the well-known wandmaker, where Harry finds out that Voldemort’s wand and his own wand share a feather from the same phoenix.

Chapter 5: The Lane

Harry and Hagrid continue their exploration of Diagon Alley. He goes to stores like Madam Malkin’s for his robes, Flourish and Blotts for his school books, and the magical pet store, where he purchases an owl named Hedwig. Along with meeting Draco Malfoy, a fellow Hogwarts student, Harry also gets a taste of the social classes in the wizarding world for the first time.

Chapter 6: The Trip from Three-Quarters to Platform Nine

The train that will transport Harry to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is called the Hogwarts Express. On the train, he meets Hermione Granger, a formidable but intelligent Muggle-born witch, and Ron Weasley, a red-haired kid from a large wizarding family. They develop an odd bond together.

Chapter 7: The Hat of Sorting

The students are placed into one of the four houses — Griffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin — when they first arrive at Hogwarts. After being placed in Gryffindor, Harry, Ron, Hermione, and a few others get to know their housemates and discover more about the customs and history of the school. They participate in the Sorting Ceremony at the conclusion of the chapter, where the Sorting Hat places them in their appropriate houses.

Chapter 8:The Potions Master

Harry finds out during his first flying class that he has a natural ability for flying as the Potions Master Classes begin at Hogwarts. All is not well, though, as he suffers in his potions class and is watched over closely by Professor Snape, who appears to harbor personal animosity for him. Harry, however, starts to have doubts about Snape’s motivations and his connection to the dark arts.

Chapter 9: The Battle at Midnight

After becoming close friends, Harry, Ron, and Hermione resolve to look into the enigmatic three-headed dog that is watching a trapdoor on the third level of Hogwarts. They believe it might be keeping an item of value safe, something having to do with the Sorcerer’s Stone — a supposed immortality-granting artifact. Their desire to satisfy their curiosity prompts them to arrange a nocturnal battle with Draco Malfoy, but when Professor McGonagall discovers them, their plans fall through.

Chapter 10: Hallowe’en

Tension at Hogwarts increases as Halloween draws near because of whispers about the Sorcerer’s Stone that circulate throughout the student body. A troll is let loose in the castle during the Halloween feast, frightening the students. As a result of their valiant battle against the troll, Harry, Ron, and Hermione gain the respect of their peers and strengthen their friendship.

Chapter 11: Swordplay

When Harry tries out for the Gryffindor Quidditch team, his flying prowess wins over everyone. He is selected for the team as the youngest Seeker in a hundred years. At Hogwarts, Quidditch plays a big role in Harry’s life, giving him a sense of purpose and community.

Chapter 12: Erised’s Mirror

Harry finds the Mirror of Erised, which reflects the most private aspirations of the one gazing at it. He develops an obsession with the mirror and looks at it for hours on end, missing his parents. When Dumbledore discovers him, he cautions him against being overly dependent on the images in the mirror.

Chapter 13: Flamel, Nicolas

The Sorcerer’s Stone’s alchemist, Nicolas Flamel, is introduced to Harry, Ron, and Hermione. They believe that someone is attempting to take the stone, which is buried at Hogwarts. They piece together hints and solve the mystery of the stone’s location with Hagrid’s assistance.

Chapter 14: The Norwegian Ridgeback, Norbert

Hagrid discloses that he intends to raise the dragon egg he won in a card game. Harry and his companions assist him in taking care of the dragon, but Draco Malfoy finds out about their secret and informs Professor Snape. Hagrid is made to send the dragon away as a form of punishment, but not before Harry and his pals make arrangements for Ron’s brother Charlie — a Romanian dragon expert — to take it.

Section 15: The Barren Woods

Due to their transgressions, Draco Malfoy, Hermione, Ron, and Harry are imprisoned in the Forbidden Forest. They come to a wounded unicorn in the jungle, and a cloaked figure attacks them. Harry sees a vision of the person consuming the unicorn’s blood as his scar starts to hurt. A centaur by the name of Firenze saves them and cautions them about the perils that await.

Chapter 16: Through the Trapdoor

Hermione, Ron, and Harry discover that the third-floor trapdoor conceals the Sorcerer’s Stone. They come up with a strategy to foil the attempt to steal it. They go through a number of challenges with the aid of Fluffy, Hagrid’s dog, including a troll, a dangerous plant, and a life-sized chess game, before arriving to the room where the stone is kept.

Chapter 17: The Dual-Faced Man

After it is established that Professor Quirrell is a Voldemort employee, Harry confronts him. Quirrell confesses to being under Voldemort’s control and admits that he is the one attempting to take the Sorcerer’s Stone. Harry finds that he can stop Quirrell by touching him in a pivotal battle that leaves the possessed professor in agonizing misery. Harry overcomes Quirrell and stops Voldemort from taking over again with the aid of Dumbledore’s shield.

In summary:

As “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” comes to an end, Harry finds out that he has gained hero status in the wizarding community before making his summertime return to the Dursleys. The book introduces the main themes of the rest of the series — love, friendship, and the conflict between good and evil — and sets the setting for Harry’s upcoming adventures at Hogwarts.
