Experimental Poetry

A Short Poem

In college, I had an experimental poetry
professor who would gift scraps of paper
to fluttering birds in a nearby tree —
so that, in summer, they’d weave her
little nests of accidental poetry
she’d read merrily in December.

She even described how fun it would be
to compost soil from leftover words,
so that, sometime while gardening, she
could watch the little worms
writing her poetry
in the clover.
