A FB post from someone on my friend’s list spawned this blog:
“Had a job interview today. It went well until the owner of the company started talking about how “the blacks” are ruining Lafayette. Apparently the Mexicans are bad but it’s the blacks who are destroying this town. Job is mine if I want it. Yeah, they clearly don’t know me.”

If it appears to him that it is the ‘blacks/mexicans’ that are the problem…. then perhaps he did not take the time to consider:
* HOW we ‘white people in power’ are choosing policies and backing laws that are disproportionately targeting, ineffective for and discouraging to people of minority AND low income (regardless of the skin color). Including poor set-up of assistance programs to maintain the status quo and prevent any upward mobility in the socio-economic status of those individuals.
* HOW ‘our’ choosing (& failure to discourage) such policies/laws are putting people in desperate situations that force them to make more desperate decisions than your average person. No money for food AND bills AND your kids new shoes to replace the old ones that have “free air-conditioning.” Cause people to HAVE TO CHOOSE.
Food OR bills –> (possibly resulting in) eviction, no electricity/water/heat,etc –> removal of kids due to failure to provide –> fees that pile up since they are added to an already underpaid & overtaxed workforce.
Shoes OR Food –> results in similar situations as the chain of events above….
So… if you love your kids and do not want to be found incapable, you might feel the need to use more desperate methods to provide (illegal, dangerous or truth bending or all of the above) after all, we WILL DO DAMN NEAR ANYTHING FOR OUR KIDS.
* HOW do we expect our youth to expect or behave any differently than our own BULLY style politicians, corporations and lobbyists? NO ONE is on the political stage (at least the media exposure one) supporting TRUE HUMANITARIAN ideals for our children to emulate. Our children go so long without humanitarian based life experiences, they grow into adolescence with a lack of empathy and concern for others, they grow into adults without those qualities. Then they have kids of their own who have to find their own way through the darkness of a world that a lack of empathy and common human decency has bred.
Do not blame the kids or the minorities or the poor for how things are: THEY ARE MERELY A SYMPTOM CREATED BY THE BIGGER ISSUE!
