Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers (FIBC), commonly known as bulk bags, have emerged as a versatile solution for storing and transporting various products and materials. A major feature of these bags is their customizable lift loop construction, which can be tailored to suit your specific application and operational requirements. In this guide, we’ll explore the advantages of four common types of lift loops, helping you make an informed choice for your unique needs.

Loop over Loop (Corner Seam Loops)

Corner seam lift loops are found in U-Panel and 4-Panel bag constructions. They are also known as loop-over-loop or side seam loops and are one of the most common loop types. These loops are stitched along the side seams of the bag to form a teardrop shape where the loop begins and ends at the same point on the bag. The most common corner seam lift loops are 2 inches in width by 10 inches in free height. U-Panel bags equipped with corner seam loops are more expensive than tubular bags; however, they offer exceptional strength and durability.

Cross-corner loops

Cross-corner lift loops can be commonly found in tubular or “circular” bag designs. Similar to loop-over-loop lift loops, cross-corner loop bags have loops in every corner of the bag. However, a key distinction is that these loops are not sewn into the bag’s seam; instead, they are stitched onto the body of the FIBC, creating an “arch” structure over each corner. The most frequently encountered dimensions for cross-corner lift loops are 3 inches in width and 10 inches in free height. These specialised loop configurations are designed to ensure that the lifting loops remain upright, streamlining the process for forklift operators to easily lift the bags, thereby reducing handling times and increasing operational efficiency.

Stevedore Straps ( Stevedore Lift Loops, Single, Double, and Supporting Loops)

Stevedore straps and lift loops are supporting loops designed for the safe handling of bulk bags. Although bags with four loops must be lifted at all four points for safe handling, bags with Stevedore loops allow lifting equipment to be lifted from only one or two. There are three different types of Stevedore Straps:

  1. One Stevedore Loop: This is a loop pulled through the four standard corner loops to connect all of them.
  2. Double Stevedore Loops: These are two loops that connect each parallel loop at the corners.
  3. Supporting Stevedore Loops: These are supporting loops that are attached to each corner loop.

Sleeve Loops/Lift Tunnel Loops

Sleeve/lift tunnel loops are a unique category of loops crafted from the same fabric as the bulk bag body. These loops are well-suited for operations that rely solely on forklifts for the handling and transportation of FIBCs. Sleeve/lift tunnel loops can be customised to be either at the bag’s base or its top, depending on the specific requirements of your application. Having these loops at the bag’s bottom can prove especially beneficial when clearance heights are a consideration.

Single Loop/ Double loop

Single- and double-loop bags are the most cost-effective FIBC style. They are constructed using tubular fabric and do not require lift loops to be sewn onto the bag. Rather, the lift loops are created using coloured sleeves. They are easy to handle and can be easily used with fully automated bagging equipment.

Fully Belted Loop

Fully belted loops are commonly found in tubular or “circular” bag constructions. These loops are securely sewn around the body and the base of the bag, forming either four or two lifting loops at the bag’s upper section. This design enhances the durability and strength of FIBCs. Fully belted bulk bags are typically employed for the transportation of heavyweight materials such as ore or metal.

Each of these FIBC lift loop options has unique benefits, whether you prioritise cost-effectiveness, ease of handling, or specialised handling scenarios. To choose the right one for your needs, consider your specific requirements and equipment. By selecting the most suitable FIBC lift loop, you can streamline your operations and enhance efficiency.
