The use of plain tiles in the kitchen or bathroom has always been the norm. It’s fairly decent and easy to maintain. But, we have to admit it’s getting boring. There’s a reason why designers love either natural stone or decorative bricks or a combination of the two for home interiors. Such materials are vividly textured that they give character and fascinating style to any space. Normally, when you see a house made of brick and stone, you tend to associate it with luxury and refinement.

Still, most people are afraid to use bricks on their kitchen — potentially winding up with a greasy brickwork with stubborn stains and splash damage is the root cause of their apprehension. Decorative bricks is one of the best solutions to this problem. Brick veneers keep the beauty and charming quality of traditional bricks minus the high price, delicate maintenance, and difficult installation procedure. The high-end look you only see in multi-million mansions and luxury hotels are not that hard to replicate. Now it’s a lot to easier to create a stunning kitchen with a brick bask splash, but how do you keep it clean?

Bricks and Splash Damage

The extraordinary texture of bricks is actually a disadvantage in the kitchen. The lackluster tiles only require a few swipes of a rag with liquid cleaner. When grease and spills come in contact with every nooks and crevices of the brick panels, cleaning and maintenance becomes challenging. On the bright side, decorative bricks are made of high-density polyurethane, which means they are immune to molds and rarely stained or discoloured. However, there are certain brands that are not moisture resistant, so be sure to inquire with your manufacturer.

Cleaning decorative bricks wall efficiently is important in areas prone to spills, dirt, and grease. If you plan to apply waterproofing sealant on your bricks, you must thoroughly clean the surface first. Any stains left on the brick will make it appear darker once the sealant is applied.

Here’s how you can keep that kitchen back splash fresh and spotless:

  1. For moderate stains and dirt, gently wipe the brick panels with soapy water or mild detergent. All-purpose cleaners may contain harsh chemicals, thus they are not recommended for cleaning bricks. Mild cleaning solution is enough to break down grease and stains in the kitchen and bathroom.
  2. For more stubborn dirt and grease, scrub the surface using soft-bristled brush (not wire brush). A standard washing-up brush is enough to get into the crevices of the panels without damaging the beautiful texture of your brickwork.
  3. Rinse off by directly flushing the surface with warm, clean water to remove soap residues. You can use the spray attachment in your faucet or the shower head in the bathroom.
  4. Though not a requirement, drying your back splash with a clean, soft towel will prevent watermarks.

The durability of bricks makes it an excellent choice in high traffic areas such as the kitchen. While decorative bricks are easier to clean than traditional bricks, neglecting them is a bad idea. Inquire with your manufacturer on the appropriate cleaning products for your bricks.
