The worst thing happening here is not the kids crashing on their father’s interview on live national TV; it is, of course, the father’s reaction, pushing them away and trying to act as if nothing happened.

Reality is not what we would like it to be as everyone, from toddler to President of the USA, has to learn sooner or later. Certainty keeps escaping us to create unexpected outcomes.

Improvisers learn to treat everything as an offer. Here, a trained improviser would have turned towards his kids and taken them on his laps, turning catastrophic failure into a triumph of domesticity. The scandal would have come later when the world discovers that this trained improviser knew nothing about North Korea and was making it all up as he went along.
