IMRAN SHAH: As Cameron Commemorates WWI in His Ramadan Message, I Cannot Help but Feel Outraged.

David Cameron’s Ramadan message to Muslims in the UK and generally the Muslim world was made public today on Youtube. Cameron comments how Ramadan brings the community and family together, in promoting humanity, religious devotion and charity. Cameron’s overt delight and almost gleaming pride about this seems to suggest perhaps maybe this is what all the recent palaver of “British values” was about. No? Perhaps not.

One of the reasons why his speech is so outrageous, Cameron conveniently disregards the Trojan fiasco where Muslims have been wrongfully targeted for overtaking schools in some mad Islamist plot. Mad enough that its increasingly seeing to be a pure hoax. There is not even a statement of concern in regards to Syria or even Gaza being bombed right now. Nor is there any mention of Shaker Aamer, Babar Ahmed, Talha Ahsan, Moazzam Begg and others who have been direct victims of his government political agenda.

Cameron went on to say that he implores Muslims to commemorate and remember the 100 year anniversary of World War I…together. I feel quite insulted by this and any Muslim who knows their history would be too. Allow me to explain myself in full.

The British Indian Holocaust

Cameron mentioned the British Indian part of the war effort of WWI in his Ramadan speech. This consisted of 1.3 million in number, whereby 400,000 were Muslims. They were not volunteers. The 1919 Amritsar massacre of 379-1,000 Hindus, Muslims and Sikh peaceful protesters showed us this. During WWI, peaceful protests went on the street to stand against the forced inscription of Indians to join the British war effort and the heavy war tax imposed on all the populous of colonised India. They met their death at the hands of British and Gurkha soldiers. Shortly afterwards, the city was put under martial law. Many thousands of the Sikh population, unaware of this ruling, convened to celebrate their religious festival of Sikh Baisakhi. The man in charge, British Brigadier General Reginald Dyer, without any intention to scare and disperse the crowed, ordered to open fire on the crowed. Dyer ordered his troops to not stop firing until all their artillery was spent, causing a highly grievous and bloody mass murder. He later explained that his action was based on the necessity to have a “moral effect” on the region. In other words, it was necessary to massacre thousands of people in order to make an example to others.

This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to colonial rule of India. Overall, it is estimated that the total deaths during British rule was in excess of 1.8 billion, 20% of those deaths are thought to be Muslim. This was nothing short of a holocaust that spanned 2 centuries. Hitler has nothing on this.

Sykes-Pico Agreement

Post WWI, Briton decided to carve up the Arab world along with France and Russia. That agreement was called the Sykes-Pico agreement. This was literally diplomats around a table drawing arbitrary lines and deciding how to split the spoils of war between them. The UK took the Arab Peninsula, as well as Palestine, Egypt and what later became Iraq and Jordan. Given Arab pressures in these areas, Briton was unable to keep control of the Arab lands. As a consequence, they carved up the territories and installed dictators in each of these lands. 100 years later, the Arab world are still stuck with these oppressive regimes in Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Iraq, who could not hold on to their power were it not for the support of Western regimes. The Arab Spring sadly has done little to change this world order in most cases, again due to the support these dictators enjoy from Western governments.

In Palestine, would continue to be occupied successfully by the British until they were over-run with the Zionist terrorism of Haganah and Irgun et al. Briton later caved in and it was given to Zionists. It also practically gave a green light to cause another genocide and mass exodus of native Palestinians by largely European Jews. Another crime the UK has never answered for.

You can see my dilemma right? This is the ugly reality that comes to mind when Mr Cameron tells me to join unity in remembrance of WWI. We haven’t even talked about the conditions in which working class Britons were subjugated to fight a war that was caused by Europe’s elite.

Cameron may be trying to offer a gesture of good will, with a dose of one-nation conservatism. He may even be doing this to secure the Muslim vote in the next coming election. Regardless, is he that ignorant of British history for us to simply batter an eye? Or does he presume that we are that ignorant or uncaring of billions dead Muslim, Hindus, Sikhs, Africans etc etc?

This is what the Muslim world should remember from WWI. For the Muslim, it wasn’t just the abolishment of the Khilafah, but how they segmented the Muslim identity into nations of their own decree and how they pro-actively installed dictators to stop the people gaining their freedom. The Muslim populations eventually, adopted the boarders and identities that their oppressor made for them. Effectively dividing them. Even today, any Muslim who simply challenges the ideas of Sykes-Pico is called a dirty Islamist by western governments and media.

If Cameron is truly genuine about us remembering the suffering of WWI, he can begin by apologising for the role of Briton’s elite in causing so much suffering in the world and the ramification it still has till this day. Afterall, Erdogan did. Why cant he?
