Google Invests $2 Billion in Anthropic, Perplexity’s AI Search Engine
Perplexity AI is an extremely powerful search engine with internet access, with a clear advantage over other search engines because it can provide information in real-time and display the source of the information it provides.
Google has invested $2 billion in Anthropic, an AI startup that is developing a search engine to rival Google’s own search engine.
Former employees of OpenAI founded the AI startup Anthropic in January 2021. The company is made up of a small group of researchers, engineers, policy experts, and operational leaders whose experience spans a range of fields.
It is developing a search engine that enables users to ask questions through a chatbot.
The investment gives Google a 10% stake in Anthropic and comes just weeks after news broke of Microsoft’s massive investment in OpenAI.
The deal underscores a ramp-up in Google’s efforts to better compete with Microsoft, a major backer of ChatGPT creator OpenAI, as Big Tech companies race to infuse AI into their applications.
