Advantages of Biconcave disc of RBC-

• Biconcave disc provides large surface area to RBC, thus RBC can carry more amount of Hb.

• More amount of Hb can bind with more amount of oxygen to transport.
• Thus Large surface area provide more amount of gas exchange.
• RBC can swell easily and squeeze easily through small capillaries without rupture.

• Had it been spherical in shape naturally, it would have been subjected to stress and lysed easily.
