I know this goes against the narrative, but a study of 2 million tweets received by Twitter users showed that men actually receive more abusive tweets than women. In fact, it was not even close. The men in the study received more than twice as many abusive tweets as the women.

I don’t point this out to say that trolling isn’t an issue or that it’s irrelevant. Trolling is problem that needs to be solved. I just find the narrative that only women/blacks/LGBT/etc are trolled to be frustrating. I understand why that narrative is chosen. Those groups make for more sympathetic victims than (white) men. If you want to persuade the public that trolling is a problem, you wouldn’t trot out someone like Piers Morgan (who received the highest percentage of abusive tweets in the study) or Ricky Gervais because no one will ever feel sorry for them, no matter what is done to them.
