Its difficult enough to filter out and correct for biases in hard sciences, where there are few ethical barriers to performing controlled experiments. The ethical barriers to performing controlled experiments on humans make it impossible for social science (and medical science) to reach the level of certainty and reliability that hard sciences can reach. Not to mention the fact that some social science experiments (like one that could demonstrate Patriarchy is actually thing) require controlled experiments that would last many lifetimes. That’s never going to happen, so what we’re left with is a science where the biggest influence on its conclusions is the bias of the researchers.
