Yea, I get that. I just think “tribe” is a crappy term for what are essentially differences in political emphases. “Tribes” don’t have overlap. The groupings you are describing are Venn diagrams with lots of overlap. Hence, “tribe” is a shitty term.
The benefit of the doubt people give to those who share their political allegiance and distrust (or worse) people feel toward those who don’t share their political allegiance is rooted in the same aspects human psychology that gave us tribalism. On a large scale there are differences, but on the scale of individuals, they are nearly identical from a psychological perspective.
