Austin, funny you should ask, as I was thinking about the relevance of the phrase “HIV stigma.” It’s one that evolves from outspoken and obvious to personal and silent.
Nobody wants to be recognized as stigmatizing. It’s not politically correct. Right?
Stigma is being associated with misinformation, being assumed as something I am not, words like: “spreading” and “catch”, and being required to do things others don’t have to do- like review my medical condition before sex and not receive a signed confidentiality form back.
Sure, not having sec with someone just because they are undetectable is uneducated. But it is not stigma in my mind. Fearing that person is the stigma because it’s an fear that isn’t founded.
