edijobs.de — a job board that promotes equity, diversity & inclusion at work!
Client: edijobs.de // A job search engine // Website Redesign // Duration: 3 weeks // UX/UI Designers: Lydia & Ina
edijobs.de is a job search platform from Germany, where you can find job posts from companies that already have equity, diversity, and inclusion integrated into their company cultures. Two amazing women created this platform from scratch, because of their personal experiences and needs, and the platform has been expanding quickly since!
The existing website
Founders created everything themselves as well as the design of the current website, since they are not designers they turned to muse case labs for help to redesign the website and make it more accessible and user-friendly. Lydia and I were part of the Advanced UX/UI Bootcamp and we chose them for our final project.
Survey
We made a survey to find out about some existing issues and to check the prospect of some features we wanted to incorporate into their website. Some of our main findings were that people didn’t know much about diversity, equity, and inclusivity and we immediately understood that it is necessary to make some of that information visible to the users immediately on the homepage and in that way underline the fact that this is also the main cause of this job search engine.
Competitor Analysis and Feature Prioritisation
The Founders provided us with a list of their direct competitors, so our next step was to compare their features. We also checked their indirect competitors (LinkedIn, Stepstone, Monster, etc.) and the features they offer. Now that we had all the features from all competitor's sites gathered we prioritised them through the MoSCoW method. We had to keep in mind that edijobs.de is still growing and at this moment doesn’t have as many posts daily as does e.g. Stepstone, and which features are an absolute must and which they can roll out over time.
Improved site map
We had the challenge of simplifying the site map while keeping all the existing information and adding new features and pages. By migrating some of the information into more logical clusters, we believe we improved the navigation for the user immensely.
Multiple User Personas & User Flows
The nature of a job engine site is to have two main users, job seekers, and employers. These two users can’t be more different, and they will generally have a completely different flow while using the product. An important thing to keep in mind is not to confuse the jobseekers with the information that belongs exclusively to employers and try to keep all these features and information away from them, but still make them visible to the employer.
This site has also 2 other secondary users, Nonprofit organisations that cooperate with edijobs.de, as well as corporate diversity and inclusion department members.
The final product
We made a responsive website that celebrates and offers information about equity, diversity, and inclusion. A job search engine where it’s easy to find your next job, save it for later, or gather in one list all the jobs you already applied for. Visually it feels serious with the touch of unusual, which aligns exactly with our client's vision. The collaboration and communication with edijobs.de Founders went so smoothly during the whole process, they provided all the information that was available to them, and they gave us additional useful insights into their user behavior which was crucial for our design process.
Findings
Prioritising and organising a bundle of important information while making sure you are not going to overwhelm the users, is a very complex task. What seems harder than that, is adapting that same amount of information for mobile devices.
A job board might sound like and easy task, but only after you dive into the problematics of it you start understanding its complexity.
Our clients were very happy about the results, and we can’t wait to see the brand new edijobs.de grow to the moon!
