Why it’s Never Too Late To Join The Party — What are You Waiting For?

It’s never too late to shape your own life — do what makes you happy

Have you ever turned up late to a party thinking “shit, Kanye’s going to hate me now.. and I didn’t even bring his favourite fish sticks”?

The gold-plated magic door is staring at you. You’re seriously re-considering whether you should even go in. The music’s LOUD. You hear your friends singing along to Justin Bieber’s ‘What do you mean?’ (and they’re so damn out of tune). There’s a group of punk-ass weirdos that you’ve never seen before, staring you down murmuring to themselves (you pretend not to see them cos’ who the fuck are they?).

Excuses are running through your head, you don’t know which one to use— an 18 car pileup on the highway, you just binge-watched an entire season of House of Card on Netflix, you left your shitty phone at home and had to go back, or your Uber driver got lost and dropped you off 5 streets down and it took you 2 hours to find the place.

But the real reason was probably sleep — right? You thought you’d take a 30-minute nap before the crazy night ahead. You ended up sleeping for a whole 5 hours. You wake up at 11 pm — is it Sunday? WTF, did I miss Kanye’s party?

Knock Knock.

Door flies open. “So sorry, I — ”

“I ain’t gon’ let you finish — I need you to put these kicks on and where dem fish sticks tho?” shouts Kanye, as he hands you a pair of Yeezy’s.

You’re amazed. Flashing lights. Beyonce. Caviar on toast. Jumping castle. Giraffe. WTF, a giraffe got here before you? Everyone’s having a good time. They didn’t need you.

“Yo, you’re finally here. What took you so long — we thought you died or something man”

But they’re happy you turned up to the party, even if it was a few hours late. And so are you. The party got better as soon as you walked in anyway.

You’re probably thinking to yourself — why is this guy raving on about a party?

It’s mainly because parties are full of awesome people, who are there for the same reason you are; to enjoy themselves and be happy. They’re all having fun and there’s nothing that can stop them. Don’t you want a piece of that?

You should keep reading, it could change your life.

You Want Some Reasons Why You Should Hit ‘Attending’ don’t You?

Wasn’t the invite enough? What’s that — You need to be persuaded into doing what makes you happy? So typical of you..

Here are a few reasons why I think you should do what makes you happy.

“It never hurts to try things that may seem difficult, even if you fail. By the end, it’s the experience and knowledge you take from the failure, which makes it count”

The Journey

The road that you’ll take to success, the journey that you’ll embark upon — there’s just so much to learn and enjoy along the way. It’s seriously going to be an amazing experience, and some say the journey is more exhilarating than the destination.

Life is just a journey and you steer the wheel. You can drive at 100 km/h and fly past some slow ass punks, or your could cruise at 60 km/h and make steady progress. Both options are fine, as long as you get in and drive. Just don’t speed or you’ll burn-out. Eek!

The journey of 1000 miles, begins with one step.

Think big. Start small

When you have your big picture in mind — your end goal, doing the small things that will lead to that big picture will make you happy — well, it definitely should otherwise you probably need to re-think your ‘big picture’. Working at the small things as often as possible should keep you focused towards making progress. Your brain will thank you for doing something creative and valuable and it will only hope that you keep doing it.

We all have to start somewhere.

You learn so much about yourself — you only get better at it when you take that first step

Imagine you never showed up to the party. You have no idea how it could have gone. Your brain has no clue what could have happened had you not shown up— it didn’t have a chance to experience or learn any new things.

When you’re investing time into something that you’re enthusiastic about, your brain will crave learning new things. You’ll be addicted to learning. You’ll learn so much that you’ll become an expert. Why stop there? Keep going. Ultimately, you will become a master of your passion.

When you put yourself out there, when you start believing in yourself, you’ll learn so much about yourself. You just needed to take that first step. But, is it worth it?

It’s so worth it

Leaving your comfort zone can be hard — trust me I know. But when you’re chasing your dream — creating value for yourself and others or pursuing your goals — you’ll have such a fun time doing it. Why? Because it’s your passion; it’s what makes you happy.

When you get to the party even if it’s late, it only gets better from there. Your whole night changes. Sometimes, your friends are even glad to see you. But if they’re not, don’t worry there’s also other awesome people that you’ve probably never met, and they’re waiting to party with you!

People are here to help

Do you think there’s someone better than you at what you do or want to do? Not going to lie, but yes there definitely is someone who’s doing it better than you. That doesn’t matter, though. In fact, you shouldn’t ignore them, you should try to connect with these people and embrace them.

Learn from them — what makes them successful? What are they doing right? Follow their progress. How did they start and what keeps them going? Don’t be afraid to ask for help. You never know, you could even teach someone else a thing or two. Help them help you.

Become an inspiration — inspire others to inspire

I’ve left my favourite reason til last

What if taking action and chasing your passion inspired somebody else to come join the party? Wouldn’t that be empowering?

Your whole life you’ve probably been competing with people — school grades, university, sports, work or business. What if we avoided looking at it as competition and rather, viewed it as inspiration? Competition isn’t bad, it’s healthy. However, a simple mindset change from ‘how can I be better than him?’ to ‘what can I do to be more like him?’ can work wonders.

“If he can do something great, so can I!”— Scream this out. Repeat it to yourself daily.

The beautiful thing is, once we see someone we know achieve their desires through their passion, it automatically makes us think what can we do to add value to our own lives and others around us.

Taking that step to do what you’re passionate about could inspire someone else to step out of their comfort zone and follow their passion. Wouldn’t that make the world a better place for you and me? 😄

What’s holding you back?

There will always be a reason not to do something. That’s your brain working against you. It wants to be comfortable. It’s easier to not chase your dreams and shape your life than to chase them. We all know that. But is that the kind of half-hearted life you want to live? Don’t let the asshole in your head guide your thinking. Don’t let the haters (the punk-ass weirdos trying to stare you down) affect you.

“When you have a vision, there is nothing that will keep you from achieving it. The key to that statement is you.”

There’s something I know for sure, that you may not know yet. I’ve been enlightened with this knowledge and I’ve actually known it for a while now. You wanna know what it is?

You and I have so much potential to do something great with our lives. You have to take the right steps to learn what makes you happy. Isn’t that what you want in life? To be happy? What’s standing in the way of your happiness?
