The Most Intolerant Wins: The Dictatorship of the Small Minority
Nassim Nicholas Taleb

We may well see France in the vanguard of the intolerance of intolerance because the French have such a horror of religion mixing with politics.

For many years the Roman Catholic Church, most notably Cardinal Richelieu, virtually governed France despite France having a king who one might expect would act as the sovereign. Despite the fact that France is largely a Roman Catholic country, French history has left them very wary of religion in politics. In this respect, the French are intolerant of religious intolerance when combined with politics.

Separated from politics, your religion is your affair, but combined with politics it becomes everybody’s affair.
