Reclaim Your Time

I believe that the increase in everyday disruptions and interruptions is directly proportional to the increase in stress and decrease in productivity in the office. Everyone speaks of the evils of email and how it is unreasonable to expect people to keep up with the number of emails received and now we have added ‘chats’ to the mix of communications to keep up with and respond to — with even more urgent expectations attached. I find it funny that companies continue to open physical workplaces designed for collaboration, fund communications designed for collaboration yet we (as employees) are searching out off-site dedicated workplaces, working from home, using noise-cancelling headphones and looking for tricks and tips to turn off collaborative software and apps notifications so that our work can get done. Teamwork is important (agreed) but not at the sacrifice of all other work.
