Introduction

Hello 👋🏼! My name is Nisa, UI/UX designer enthusiasm and I’m currently joining Dibimbing.id BootCamp. This article is a continuation of the previous article, “Cooking Class Feature for Content Creator on TikTok”. This article will only discuss the results of usability testing.

Objective

Evaluating the usefulness and user experience of the cooking class feature in the TikTok app.

Methodology

1. Usability testing
2. In deep interview

Tools: Sheets, Maze, Google Meet

Prototype

After creating the prototype, I tested the results using Maze. During this usability testing, I identified several issues that needed to be addressed in the design, such as non-intuitive navigation and unclear functionality. Subsequently, I iterated on the design and re-tested to ensure that the identified issues were effectively resolved. Here prototype before usability testing

Process

I gave tasks to the respondents using the maze tools to gather feedback and assess the usability of the prototype. Maze link can be accessed.

Task given

I asked the respondents to complete tasks given through a scenario. The scenario was divided into five parts :

Task 1: Find a recipe video that catches your eye and watch that long-form video

Scenario:Imagine you are looking for cooking recipe ideas on the TikTok app. From the search results, you come across a video that catches your attention, which contains information that the recipe has already been recooked and saved by other users. When you click on the video to watch it, you see an icon (more videos) that allows you to watch related videos with a longer duration

Task 2: See a summary of the ingredients in the video

Scenario:Imagine when you are watching the video, then you notice a recipe icon. When you click on it, a summary of the required ingredients and detailed instructions for making the recipe are displayed

Task 3: Save the recipe video into a special folder on the TikTok app

Scenario: Imagine when you want to save the content video into a folder that you desire

Task 4: Add some comments and questions to the video

Scenario: Imagine when you want to leave a comment or ask questions related to the recipe to the content creator.

Task 5: Use the recook feature to create cooking content from these recipes

Scenario:Imagine when you want to recook the recipe and want to tag your recook with the same hashtag used by the content creator to help other users find variations and recook results of the recipe.

Task 6:Shop for ingredients that are not at home to recook the food through the feature in the TikTok application

Scenario: Imagine when you want to recook the recipe and want to tag your recook with the same hashtag used by the content creator to help other users find variations and recook results of the recipe.

Summary insight

Task 1 — Find a recipe video that catches your eye and watch that long-form video

In this task, all users can find recipe ideas and watch long videos. They are happy that there is a video controller button and recipe information has been recooked by other users

Recommendation
They feel confused with this more video icon because when they click it, it leads to a page to watch a longer video. Therefore, users may feel less assisted and need a clearer explanation about the functionality of the icon so that users can use it properly.

Task 2— See a summary of the ingredients in the video

In this task, all users find it helpful to have an icon containing a summary in this cooking content.

Recommendation
They said it would be helpful to have a tooltip to let them know that there was a summary, and would prefer that the recipe be made more consistent. Because when they open content other than cooking content, this recipe icon will disappear or how?

Task 3 — Save the recipe video into a special folder on the TikTok app

In this task, users find it helpful to have a folder for each video they save.

Recommendation
In this task it is necessary to view more, because the stored folder may be more than 2 folders.

Task 4 — Add some comments and questions to the video

In this task, all users find it helpful to have a separate comment column.

Recommendation
They say that for recommendation, they can use language such as feedback so as not to cause misunderstanding. And use hightligh like the recipe column to be more consistent

Task 5— Use the recook feature to create cooking content from these recipes

In this task, some users feel motivated by this feature. They can recook by looking at the recipe step by step.

Recommendation
The place of the recipe box that is too far away makes users confused with the videos they have saved. And there needs to be a limit in length for long and short videos.

Task 6— Shop for ingredients that are not at home to recook the food through the feature in the TikTok application

In this task, all users find it helpful to have a shopping feature for ingredients to recook the dish.

Recommendation
They prefer that the shopping process can be done closer to the moment they find the recipe video for the first time, so users can buy ingredients more easily and don’t have to search elsewhere in the app.

Design Recommendation

I made a design recommendation based on suggestions and feedback from users who have undergone the usability testing process. The recommendation includes improving the intuitiveness of the navigation and making the functions clearer to users. Additionally, I suggested implementing a feature to allow users to easily save the recipe videos and shop for ingredients directly from the app, as users expressed a preference for a more seamless shopping experience. Lesson Learned

Usability testing is not the end of the design process, because after obtaining the results from usability testing, there are still further steps to be taken in the design process, such as implementing user feedback, making improvements and re-testing, and ensuring that the resulting design is consistent with the established business goals and strategies.

I am aware that there are still many shortcomings in this writing and I accept feedback from my friends. I hope that my writing can help and be beneficial to the reader. You can also visit to my Linkedin and Dribble
