UK Was One, Ukraine Was One, Spain Was One, Canada Was One…who’s next?

I wrote the following article BEFORE the vote.

What’s going on? What’s happening around us? The world seem to have gone crazy. Everyone now wants a separate country, a separate identity. In some cases, through a referendum, while in other instances, forcefully. Scotland wants to secede from the UK. Taking their example, Catalonia wants the same. They to want to secede from Spain. Crimea is already part of Russia now. There are others too, we don’t know about them…yet. Venice from Italy, Quebec from Canada. Very recently, even Texas wanted to secede from the US. A lesser known region, Transnitria, wants to secede from Moldova. “Transnitra? Moldova? Where is Moldova?” you ask. Moldova, which was originally part of Romania, is a breakaway republic itself.

But wait a minute…think. What is it that you exactly want? Freedom? From what? Tyranny? None of the countries mentioned here fit the bill. So what is it? Culture? Again, all the countries mentioned above respect your identity and culture. Economic and political freedom? Ah, now we are getting somewhere. Many of these regions who want a separate country are convinced that they will be better off on their own. Really? Take Moldova for example. Do you know that Moldova is the poorest country in Europe? What about human relations? What if you have a loved one from the other part? That is EXACTLY what I’m trying to say in my book, India Was One. Sadly, people don’t think it through, how it can be utter chaotic. It is one thing to draw a line to separate geographically, but entirely different to live through the turmoil. We are talking about human lives here, and not just some selfish political gain.

As we are taught, “love thy neighbor”. But what if your neighbor was part of you?

Think.
