On Immigration, Bernie Sanders is Not Who He Says He Is.
Dolores Huerta

hermana Dolores,

I am dismayed that you would put your name to this transparent hit piece. I feel obligated to point out how these manipulation tactics are counter productive to your own cause — supporting your son’s new political career — akin to the millions who vote against their own best interest. To put a finer point on it: you really shouldn’t try to sling mud when you’re taking money from a corporate candidate who lives in slop.

So let’s assume that some supporters did yell “English Only.” Spreading that very isolated — unsubstantiated — incident through social media as an indictment against all Bernie supporters, and the Senator himself by extension, appears hysterical to the undecided because it is well known that Sanders enjoys support from all across the political spectrum. It is was a ploy destined to fail and so tone deaf that you come off looking dotty at best. At worst you sound like a viejita loca yelling at the kids to get off your lawn.

Rosario Dawson has succinctly debunked — as have most commenters here — your attempt to make simple-minded, debasing conclusions from very complex congressional votes. So I will point out again that it is nakedly disingenuous to malign a Senator who has a record that dwarfs your candidate’s in breadth and depth. You cast more doubt upon your motives with this tactic than doubt upon his integrity.

And that is the saddest point. Your actions since stepping up on the political stage make it clear that you are a mouthpiece for Hillary’s words. Now by calling attention to immigration you are inviting the contrast of her record next to his. This makes you appear way out of touch with the immigrant — and very often indigenous — peoples who you purport to represent. Sanders has pledged to restore First Nation rights and to honor the treaties. Hillary orchestrated the Honduran coup whose corruption has led to the state sanctioned assassination of indigenous leader Berta Cáceres.

Attacking Sanders on immigration is weak tea when HRC “evolved” — just a few weeks ago — on deporting women and children refugees back to their deaths. Women and children, by the way, who are still fleeing violence perpetrated by corrupt puppet governments, funded while HRC was SecState, all in order to protect private industries that have kicked millions back to the Clinton Foundation. I won’t even bring up Colombia — Frank Giustra and Pacific Rubiales — or her knowledge of anti-union death squads.

Clinton is the one of the most distrusted, polarizing candidates in modern history and she is competing against a politician who has demonstrated integrity and conviction for decades. Every attempt to smear Sanders only reiterates the weakness, and illuminates the desperation, in your position.

“”We have to send a clear message: Just because your child gets across the border, that doesn’t mean the child gets to stay. We don’t want to send a message that’s contrary to our laws or will encourage more children to make that dangerous journey.” ~HClinton

Our laws are supposed to protect refugees from violence and mandate due process, neither of which was done while she was in a position to do something about it.
