Recently my friend put a pic in his WhatsApp status showing VoLTE sign with 5G written on top of it in the network signals. His caption was like Network Providers releasing fake 5G.

But is it really fake 5G? How do we know? Let’s find out.

What is 5G?

The very good question which arises in our mind now is what exactly is 5G?

According to Wikipedia, “5G is the fifth-generation technology standard for broadband cellular networks, which cellular phone companies began deploying worldwide in 2019, and is the planned successor to the 4G networks which provide connectivity to most current cellphones.”

OK! But what is it based on??

Well, currently we are able to see 2 types of 5G network connectivity one is NSA which stands for Non-Standalone 5G and the other is SA which stands for Standalone 5G. Now in the recent auctions of 5G bands in India we are having only 1 mm wave band which support SA 5G bands for which Jio has the license to but the other telecom companies like Airtel and VI only support NSA 5G bands.

NSA 5G is ususally based on the 4G technology with increased download and upload speeds.

What we experience now in the metro cities is the NSA 5G.

VOLTE in 5G?

In most of the 5G phones you will be able to find the VoLTE sign near the 5G network bars. So, What does it mean?? Is 5G Real?? Are the network providers lying to us??

Well, to answer all these questions Let us go back to the day of 5G Auction.

JIO has acquired 5G SA bands along with 5G NSA bands. Airtel and Vodafone Idea acquired only NSA Bands.

Now that we all know what is the difference between 5G SA Architecture and 5G NSA Architecture, it will be easy to answer the questions.

Current 5G networks provided by the Network Providers are NSA network so it mainly depends on the 4G LTE architecture. The network architecture for 5G SA is still under development and there is a possibility to get Voice Over 5G or as we may know it in future as VoNR (Voice over New Radio 5G). News have been around the JIO is deploying 5G SA networks in some cities. Let’s wait an watch what JIO brings in to the market with 5G SA network.

Conclusion

So, is 5G real??

Answer: Absolutely

Are the network providers lying to us??

Answer: Well if they are then they will be in big trouble now right?? But, based on my research I think we can believe on the Network Providers.

Is the Government lying to us?

Answer: Well, I may not be the right person to answer that but the question comes again why will the lie to us?

5G is very much real and the improvement in internet speed it has brought in India is exceptional.
