I don’t really know what happened to Yahoo. But I can say that somewhere along the road, Yahoo got a bad reputation. Obviously Yahoo cannot compete with the likes of Google or Apple or any other company right now. I will say that Tumblr is one of my favorite things that Yahoo owns. But it looks bleak for Tumblr now as well as Yahoo itself. I see it this way. Yahoo, a second rate company, was bought by the worst communications company I know. Verizon is not cool, hasn’t ben for awhile. So what they have Fios. Or a large cell network. So does the likes of AT&T. Like TV, these sites are going to fracture and spin off into something else down the line. I have not been a fan of Yahoo for a long time. And I deleted whatever accounts I had with them. I doubt very much I will ever return. Personally I think Tumblr is the saving grace for Yahoo, no matter who owns them. But that will never take hold. Maybe somewhere down the line Tumblr will be sold off by Verizon and then maybe someone much better will buy them. At least that would survive. But for now, I see Medium as a great alternative to Tumblr. And Twitter obviously is much smarter than Yahoo could ever be. But the future of a devastated company remains to be seen.
