Medieval trip to Alvoco das Várzeas

This charming Portuguese village is located in Alvoco Valley and it used to be a Roman town. River Alvoco is known as one of the cleanest rivers of Europe, it has its source in Estrela Mountain and flows into River Alva just 5 km further downstream in Ponte das Três Entradas, Oliveira do Hospital county.

Locals and tourists come here for the relaxing scenery of the Medieval bridge, the high thin cascade coming up from the mountains on the back and its blue-flag pebble beach.

After refreshing in the clear waters… why not having a beer and a snack, like the typical little snails? Those are one of the most popular appetizers of the region during summertime.

Please drive slowly, as the road from the main road to the river is so tiny that only one car fits!
