Position Yourself or You Will Be Positioned By Someone Else!

I was listening to a business book this morning, and this one statement stood out to me so profoundly.“Position yourself or you will be positioned by someone else”.

The book was talking about a 30 year old man who was at the bottom of the totem pole at his job. His boss, who was one year older than him, was managing the company he worked for and was making ten times his salary. The man was working harder than anyone else in the company, but continued to stay at the bottom. He went to his boss and demanded an answer as to why he was at the bottom. He asked why someone who was working less, was making so much more and how someone, who was only one year older than him, was so high up in the company. The boss replied, “Because I positioned myself, and you let others position you”.

This stood out to me because I feel this is exactly how people’s health is. If you do not make the conscious decision to be healthy, that choice will be made for you… and in my experience it usually turns out poorly.

So the question is, How do you create health or position yourself to achieve health, instead of letting your health fade?

I think the problem is that a lot of people out there think that they are subject to their genes, and poor health is just a series of bad luck. Can genes play into things? Of course, there is no doubt, but we now know that genes alone are the cause of disease in less than 5 percent of the cases. Before all of you stop reading and say, “Yep that’s me”, keep reading and improve your health!

So… what causes disease then?

How your genes are EXPRESSED or the science of epigenetics has the answer to that very question! Genes get expressed by the environment that they are exposed to.

There was a term from middle school that everyone learned, HOMEOSTASIS! Remember that word? Well this basically means that your body is a self regulating organism that tries to keep itself balanced as well as possible when exposed to the environment. Your body is constantly adapting itself to the environment that is inside and outside of the body. Your genes dictate how well you are able to do this to an extent, but I promise you if you eat fast food everyday and drink soda, your body will have a much more difficult time staying balanced than if you choose healthier options.

So, if you are getting adjusted, eating the right foods, exercising and thinking good thoughts your genes will be expressed a lot better than if you are constantly doing the opposite. The good thing is that your genes are designed to express health, not disease! You just have to give them the right fuel for them to express health.

My challenge for you today is to not let your environment position you in disease and position yourself for optimal health.

If you change your environment to include these 4 things, it will be very rewarding for you in the future.

  1. Get checked and if necessary adjusted by a specific chiropractor-Making sure your nervous system is functioning optimally is a necessity for your body to be able to adapt to its environment adequately!
  2. Eat healthy- Fuel your body for success instead of failure. This will help your body heal more effectively, efficiently and give you more energy!
  3. Exercise daily- This will constantly challenge your body and will make it stronger. Remember if you do not use it, you will lose it!
  4. Think good thoughts- Nobody is making you think a certain way. I challenge you to say positive things instead of negative. Who wants to live a sad negative life? I know I sure don’t and I am sure you do not either.
