We’re not pleased about it and we understand it’s thrown a lot of people out who’d planned to get on the river then.
We like to think we run a pretty tight ship. But it turned out to be a bit too tight for the boat shipping some crucial equipment — the boats.
Yep. The inflatable boats for the regatta are still on a ship on their way to Melbourne and won’t be here by 10 February.
The ship was delayed by weather. Then the ship’s course was changed to Sydney. Then Thursday afternoon we found out it was changed back to Melbourne. Still delayed enough to push the event back.
The rescheduled event will be the very same as originally planned for February 10 — all the same things, including music acts playing beside the river and great food and drinks at the end.
Key things for people with a ticket
- We’re sorry for the change in date. Hope it hasn’t put you out.
- Tickets don’t change. Keep the same one for the same time.
- Bring a water bottle on the day!

What else has changed?
Can’t think of anything other than the date. Maybe the weather will be different, but all the fun parts we’ve been planning for Inflatable Regatta 2018 are still in the mix.
Where is the boat with the boats!
The ship is called the “Seoul Express”. Not a quaint vessel for recreating on but a container ship that’s probably largely indistinguishable from others.
While the ETA maybe close to the original date we don’t know how long customs will hold the freight before releasing it.
