⚡️ From MSN to TikTok, as social media has changed, the birth and growth of digital marketing came with it. Before our eyes, blown-up Instagram accounts took over the traditional bus ads, viral videos defeated the billboards, and free blog sites pushed newspaper ads out of the picture. But one particular major development shook the marketing world…Influencer Marketing. With an estimated Influencer Marketing Market Size at just under $10 Billion dollars in 2020, it has become clear that paid amplification is one of the fastest-growing sectors of digital marketing and the ball won’t stop rolling anytime soon.
The way Influencer marketing exists now mostly benefits a tiny percentage of influencers- celebrities and the lucky handful that sky-rocketed to millions of followers from the gecko. Don’t get us wrong, it is still a great time to be an influencer (small or large), but the majority of them don’t see a penny. 97% of influencers do not get paid. Now for those who dream to have influencer marketing become their main source of income, that’s just not realistic in the industry’s current climate and way of operating.
Now, let’s look at how this affects the industry as a whole. Considering the problem mentioned above, we ask, what are these influencers getting out of this? Free products- sometimes (if they don’t have to send it back), the “image” of being an influencer (okay, cool, but you can’t buy necessities with image alone), followers?…Sure, but without the resources to grow, there is only so many followers to be gained. And just like that, this has quickly been adopted as the accepted industry standard.
The bottom line is most Influencer marketing is non- monetised and there is no standardised way of payment. Don’t you think these are some major problems for such a massive industry? We think so too. This is where Influencio comes in…
