Genesis 2: He Rested!

2 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

The Bible is a book encompassing details of different areas with beauty and succinct clarity yet it is odd when men come up with ideas they term new and profound yet was written down long ago to all men. We discover old tales and truths that everyman should truly in such a time of awareness of mind and knowledge should be in truth part of the general known facts of life yet we instead go on journeys of self enlightenment and fusion of mind and soul to just realized the truths.

Some go on journeys to realize their families are important or that work and money is not everything in life, some come to term in realizing the important of simplicity and giving back but which seem to have taken yet a long journey to reach. I do not barrage nor disdain the journeys, experiences are worthwhile and life must be explored but should hidden facts which have been laid out bare before our minds and eyes be so returned to be so hidden that we need long journeys to return in a 360 degree fashion to realize these truths?

One such truth is about Rest!

Doctors hammer away at their patience ears about rest, the important of a good sleep, it seems there is a new show every where the focus is about telling people of how much a simple one hour rest can rejuvenate the body and mind, yet we slumbering, late night, “Work-A-Holics” seem to enjoy the thrills of over work and high blood pressures tipping their scales ever so wonderfully.

Isaiah 28:12King James Version (KJV)

12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

The first important lesson drop into the ears and minds of men was that:

God Rested!

Yes, even God ,the Almighty took the initiative and time to both express an important fact, we know from a fact he is neither weary nor gets tired like we but yet it was said “he rested from all his works” and with added effect “sanctified the 7th day as a day of rest” for all things, all men, all women,all life.

28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

The book of Psalms speak of the love of God and the truth of the hearts of men, Proverbs details the path of wisdom and relates the differences of life and choices, Ecclesiastics tells of the heart and thoughts of a man who starts of with a life where he was ruled by time and chance but not God, chasing and following every possible paths to find self peace and self awareness to realize he was simply walking a path without God and at the end realizes God was the focal point of all creation and human life.

1 Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;

2 While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:

12 And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.

13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

Yet we like him seem to feel and desire the need to redo the whole journey to in some way expect to find a different conclusion. The Bible contains the deepest and most profound clearly laid out facts and truths and we but only have the choice to hear them or end up on a never ending journey to find the same truths that have been so clearly written down and translated into every possible language in the world for all to see.

God rested and he wants us to rest not just from our daily chores and stress induced, adrenaline pumping, over hyped busy lives but also from the troubles of the heart, the world and the problems it comes with, even more he wants us to rest from the battering and attack of sin and of a fallen world ripe for judgement.

Jesus said once in Matthew 11:27:

“Come to me all you who labor and are heavy burdened and I will give you rest, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light”

But before we can gain this beautiful rest and the treasures that so eagerly come with, it simply has a condition. Don’t worry it requires no payment or registration of any sorts, nor does it require a long, hard journey to the seven mountains of Rome nor into the depths of the world,nor 3 or 4years of hard study. It simply asks you to understand that without God you can never truly enjoy the true rest and that only by simply accepting the free offer of an intercessor in Jesus Christ his son who can stand in your place and mediate for you with God has your savior, guarantor and Lord to ensure your rest and peace is sure and that your sins(both past and present and future) are wiped away with no record there with, only then can your rest be fully secured.

Many looked to different guarantors (e.g Buddha, Confucius,…etc) but all these have died and were buried yet only one grave remains empty and that is the Lord Jesus Christ’s. He is a guarantor who is alive and still expresses himself to each and every heart through the Bible, through the lives he has saved and he still guides, to the miracles he does today and still will do. Please accept and take your place in the simple journey of an eternal rest in him, for he eagerly waits for you.
