So how do you manage to cut down the price of a neckband style earphone to just ₹999? The answer is — Become Redmi. Only they can pull off a stunt like this. In this day and age of wireless earphones, Redmi decided to dive down to the ₹999 mark. And here comes the Redmi SonicBass Wireless. So without further ado, let’s Digin2 the specs.

The design and build of Redmi SonicBass Wireless:

A neckband has to be sturdy and lightweight. The Redmi SonicBass Wireless does checks the boxes if so. That is to say, the neckband is pretty light weighing around just 21.2 grams. Furthermore, the wires are fairly strong. But don’t compare them with the Oneplus bullets wireless z or realme buds wireless pro. Those are 1.5x or 2x costlier. The volume +/- buttons and the multi-purpose button are okay too. The tactile feel could be improved though.

Other than that, the wire-length is long enough. The earpieces do attach magnetically. But that doesn’t come with the pair/unpair feature with attach/detach. Given the low price point, it’s can’t be expected. Similarly, for the perfect fit, the earphones do come with 6 additional ear tips of different sizes. Furthermore, Redmi has launched the Redmi SonicBass Wireless in two colors — Black and Blue.

The Redmi SonicBass Wireless is also IPX4 rated. While you can’t take it to your swimming sessions, it can still protect itself from sweat and splashes. Thus it’s perfectly fine at the gym.

Pairing and connectivity of Redmi SonicBass Wireless:

This part is nothing special in this neckband. They come with Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity that supports 10m of range. The multipurpose button is to be pressed to pair the device with your phone.

Furthermore, even at this price point, the neckband does support dual device support at the same time. So you can connect your laptop and your phone at the same time. Due to this, you can switch between them effortlessly.

How’s the sound quality?

The sound quality, as the name suggests, is bass-oriented. And that what most of the consumers want. In short, the instrument separation in the Redmi SonicBass Wireless is not that great. There are other pricier neckbands for that. But when it comers to loudness and bass the neckband won’t disappoint for sure.

Environmental Noise Cancellation is there to help you with the good call quality. Due to the position of the mic being close to your lips the call is better. Also, the passive noise cancellation is pretty good due to the in-ear design of the neckband. So the call quality is on par with the other expensive neckbands.

Battery life of Redmi SonicBass Wireless:

Redmi claims that Redmi SonicBass Wireless can last upto 12 hours. And turns out this claim is pretty accurate. With the 120 mAh battery built-in achieving 10–12 hour playback time is fairly possible. Furthermore, you can charge the Lithium-polymer battery inside with the port given. Yes, that’s a bummer. I hate it. But considering the price, it’s okay.

Controls and other stuff:

The buttons in the neckband can be used for various purposes. Play/Pause music, Accept/Reject calls, switching between devices these are all possible. Even more, accessing Google assistant from the neckband alone is also possible. Thus the plethora of voice commands is also at your service.

Additionally, there is no dedicated low latency gaming mode. So you need to be extra careful while gaming. Gaming is definitely possible. But if you’re a hardcore gamer please invest a bit more and buy something else.

Final verdict:

The sound signature is bass oriented, the build quality is okay and the battery life is 12hour. If that is all you are looking for this is a great option to begin. For a basic neckband earphone, the Redmi SonicBass Wireless does cover all the basic boxes. On the other hand, if you’re looking for advanced features like low latency mode, fast charging you need to look elsewhere. So the new budget neckband gets a pass from me. What do you think?
