The Sonder Payments Story (Who We Are And Why We’re Here)

Welcome to Sonder Payments. We’re glad you’re here, and we’re glad you’ve heard of us. You might be asking yourself, however, “who are you,” or “why are you here?” Today, we’ll do our best to answer those questions.

Who Are You?

Sonder Payments is made up of a small group of individuals based in St. Louis, Missouri. We were founded in early 2018 and have since grown to a team of 6 individuals (and we’re expecting to grow even more soon)! We come from all sorts of industries including technology, transportation, construction, translation, and, our collective favorite, payments. Our wide array of experience allows us to better assess your processing needs from the merchant side. We’re not lifetime payments salespeople; we were all business owners and decision makers before starting Sonder Payments, and we know how difficult payment processing can be.

Why Are You Here?

So how do six people with such different backgrounds end up in one place? Well, simply put, one of us had an idea. Merchants all across the world are being duped by their processors. Overly complicated pricing structures, convoluted contracts, and bloated margins meant that processors were raking in the dough while their customers were paying through the nose and not even realizing it.

We wanted to fix that.

So we came up with our idea: subscription-based processing. Subscribers to our service will pay a basic, non-complicated rate with no contracts, no cancellation fees, and no strings attached. And thus, our famous catchphrase was born: “Members pay true cost plus 8 cents per transaction.”

We believe that transparency is the key to changing the payment processing industry. We will never sneak fees into your statements. We won’t randomly change your membership fee or the services we offer. We mean it when we say that you’ll pay just 8 cents per transaction.

We also wanted to make sure that we could offer this great pricing to any business that was interested, so we built our infrastructure on top of Vantiv/WorldPay, one of the largest processors in the world. That means we’ve got a small team with huge resources. With Sonder Payments, you’ll receive dedicated, personal service, but you’ll also have access to some of the most advanced payment processing tools available to merchants today.
