Palliative care for the people suffering from cancer aims to reduce the problems faced by the patients and their families with the treatment of pain and other physical, psychological, and spiritual ailments. The concept of palliative care in India is new. It was introduced in the 1980s. Along with individuals committed to making palliative care popular in the country, several organizations are working in this area to make it more accessible to the commons.

The early initiatives of palliative care for cancer patients in India were established in the city of Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, and Trivandrum. The Indian Association of Palliative Care (IAPC) is a national forum to connect individuals and institutions involved in palliative care in India.

Here are a few popular organizations who are pioneers in Palliative Care for cancer patients in India.

Tata Medical Center, Kolkata -

Tata Medical Center is one of the most effective providers of palliative care for cancer patients in India. Situated in Kolkata, center provide symptomatic management and end-of-life care for patients and their families.

Pallium India, Trivandrum -

Pallium India is delivering its efforts to help suffering patients and their families with effective pain relief and quality of palliative care, since 2003. They have also established the Trivandrum Institute of Palliative Sciences (TIPS) in Trivandrum, Kerala.

Pratham Hospice Trust, Chennai -

The Pratham Hospice Trust was by Ranvir Shah (Trustee) set up in 2006 as a charitable trust. Its objective is to establish services for the care and effective treatment of terminally ill patients, and those beyond hope. It also aims to work closely with other hospices, clinics, and homes for the sick to provide such Palliative Care.

ACTREC (Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research, and Education in Cancer) -

ACTREC in Mumbai has brought hope to cancer patients with the help of their idea of palliative care since 1996. They provide emotional support and guidance to patients to help them deal with the crisis.

Sparsh Hospice, Hyderabad -

Sparsh Hospice established in 2011 in Hyderabad which provides necessary medical and emotional treatment in the last phases of cancer when there is nothing to but ensure proper care of the cancer patients.
