The Real KTV

Few places do karaoke like Queens, and in Queens, few places do it like the Real KTV. The private rooms here are affordable, but don’t skimp on the amenities — think luxurious standing mics — or atmosphere. The staff are attentive and there is a large selection of drinks, nibbly food and, most importantly, tunes to belt. The Real KTV is located on the third floor of the New World Mall in Flushing. The entrance is in the corner directly to the right as you exit the elevators, past the restaurant. The website and signage are in Chinese, but English speakers shouldn’t be intimidated! All are welcome and catered to.

Karaoke DUET 53

At Duet 53, large parties can sing their hearts out in large rooms, similar to intimate lounges, full of benches and tables. The best part? There are a few monitors in the room, so you can move around while you sing and still have the chance to read the lyrics. The extensive catalog of songs ranges from Frank Sinatra’s hits to current favorites like Lady Gaga. Although Duet 53 doesn’t have a kitchen, feel free to bring your favorite snacks. The venue even has a slew of menus for area restaurants, so you can also have food delivered. For those who need a little liquid courage before they sing, Duet 53 has several drink specials.

Baby Grand

Baby Grand is the first and only boutique karaoke bar in NYC. It started with a dream to create a magical experience, one that blends both the intimacy of a private room with the energy of open karaoke. The staff not only strive for quality and excellence, but pour in heaps of love and good vibes. The bar is quite tiny and can easily fill up on weekends, so come early to stake your claim. However, for those who prefer a more chill experience, weekdays are predictably less crowded and more relaxed. It’s like having your own personal karaoke bar. It’s a tiny space, but the vibe is great and they have a nice, curated alcohol selection.

32 Karaoke

Luckily, 32 Karaoke is not only a great backdrop for the blurry photos taken of you while you deliver a stirring rendition of “Total Eclipse of the Heart” — it also has a stellar collection of songs to choose from, one that’s as up to date as it can be. Both the hallways and the rooms are covered in red, white, and blue geometric wallpaper, twinkly lights, and inexplicable posters for random pop stars ranging from a signed One Direction picture to the Bob Marley print on every frat boy’s dorm wall (you know the one) to a Warholian print of baby Justin Bieber’s face. We’ll have to take the latter claim on faith, but we will say that if you’re looking to get loud and silly with your pals in a lovably tacky private room (complete with spinning disco ball and disorienting geometric patterns on the wall), you’ve found your karaoke mecca.
