No device can produce energy in excess of the total energy put into constructing it. Time taken to stock energy to build an energy-producing device, added to the time taken to build the device, will always be longer than the useful lifetime of the device.

Energy (or the lack of it) always comes before an assumption that starts with “..if we were to travel at 186,000 miles per second…”.
