Top 3 Alternate LGBTIQ+ Events For Sydney Mardi Gras 2017
The best alternate LGBTIQ+ Parties during Sydney Mardi Gras 2017 for LGBTIQ+ Individuals.
1. Unicorns — A Sparkle Extravaganza
Unicorns is one of the hottest queer parties on the scene, across both Melbourne and Sydney, boasting performances from nationally renowned burlesque dancers, performers and DJ’s like Sveta that will absolutely blow your mind. There is so much free glitter and body paint (professional body painters) at Unicorns you be washing it out of your hair for months to come. There is not a more inclusive party for trans, non-binary and queer individuals across the entire spectrum.
Our favourite part of Unicorns is that the venue is 100% accessible and all shows AUSLAN Interpreted. If you are a low income earner, student or unemployed, you can email your centrelink card or equivalent and they can put you in line for one of their “Pay it Forward” tickets, pre-paid for by anonymous kind souls. You can also volunteer to help for entry!
Consider Unicorns your really cute, cool alternative friend who changes their hair colour every couple of months, is in a 3 piece electro trash grunge band, does pole dancing lessons for exercise and majored in gender studies.

2. Femme-nation (GiRLTHING)
The fish in this sea are young, vibrant and party hard. Femme-nation is by the Snatch & Grab legends that bring you GiRLTHING and the weekly grrrls party Birdcage. This years party is set to be filled to the brim, with organisers nabbing up the Metro Theatre for a nice, easy trek after the parade if you’re headed there, with a separate area for VIP’s!
The music is heavy and throbbing for those who want to get lost in the music and flood of bodies. International and local acts yet to be announced, but we know this is going to be a good one.
Femme-nation is your friendly jock buddy that likes to check themselves out in reflective surfaces and always nabs the object of their desire. They know how to have a real good time

3. Heaps Gay
Camp as f*ck is probably the best way to describe Heaps Gay. Playing all the bangers across all decades and eras, Heaps Gay is a pristine and well curated event that won’t alarm any of your conservative hetero friends (we all have them) if they wanted to come along and experience the fun! Heaps Gay is an inclusive event for absolutely everyone, with awesome DJ’s, live art and installations. Heaps Gay is where your Tumblr/Instagram crush fantasies materialise.
Heaps Gay is your ex-Barista BFFL finishing off a Masters of Art Curation and working part-time as a Visitor Gallery Services Officer at the MCA.
