On a lazy afternoon, the humongous yet relatable bear, grizzy, wakes up to a throbbing hungry stomach. As they exchange looks, within seconds lemmings rush away with the chocolate spread as Grizzy tries to catch them. And there begins the inevitable chase with a lot of punches, kicks and throws.

This is Grizzy and the Lemmings for you! A slapstick comedy bringing back the classic cat-and-mouse chase. With a huge natural reserve in Canada as the backdrop, the characters are put in the setting of a forest ranger’s haven. What could be a better setting that putting two ‘wild’ creatures in a modern house? Invoking hilarious situations while watching television or using the microwave, the characters feral in nature, portray both human and animal-like traits. While dodging between the two, they get stuck into situations which not only are comic but can even be educational (enveloped quiet subtly between the layers so that it is not in-your-face of the young audience.)

It is interesting how the two protagonist are so different when compared from their positioning in the animal kingdom hierarchy. Lemmings are infamously known because of a hugely popular myth that they fell from the sky during a storm back in 1958. These are rodents found near the tundra biomes usually in the Arctic and have periodic population booms, a trait wittily captured in the series. Their population drops to almost extinction every three to four years, only to skyrocket again. Because of this, another rumor has spread like wildfire that they commit mass suicide. These creatures are pitted against a grizzly bear, the majestic symbol of wild. They generally live solitarily and inhabitat large territories, an aspect shown in the show.

What makes the show a treat is when their wildly characteristics merge with seemingly human behavior. The comic scenes are taken a step ahead by incorporating modern props like chocolate spread, a refrigerator or even a racing car. Who wouldn’t have a blast watching the two tear each other apart with the nuances of slapstick comedy?
