But the Ultra HDR feature could be rolled out to your older Android device in the coming months, a new report has suggested.

According to high-profile Android leaker Mishaal Rahman, Google is working on an update to make it easier for Android apps to take Ultra HDR photos.

This is done by adding Ultra HDR image capture support to the CameraX API.

CameraX, launched in 2019, is a software library that grants developers access to Google’s more advanced camera features.

Google created CameraX after discovering that the majority of Android camera usage was being completed in third-party apps — instead of the native camera app.

However, this practice reduces the picture quality without the help from CameraX API.

This update could allow other Android smartphones to support Samsung’s sparkly camera feature on social media platforms, like Instagram or Facebook.

However, this game-changing upgrade is only available through Android 14, which Google began rolling out to Android devices in October last year.

Can I get Android 14 on my phone?

Android 14 is slowly making its way across the globe, phone to phone.
The newer your device, the better chance it has of receiving the update sooner. And don’t forget, as time goes on some phones stop receiving updates. You’ll need to check with your phone’s manufacturer to find out when — or if — Android 14 is coming. Most companies commit to at least three Android upgrades — so if you’ve had Android 11, Android

12 and Android 13 already, your chances aren’t looking great. As Google owns Pixel and Android, Pixels are usually pretty speedy at receiving new versions.Samsung is also pretty fast at rolling it out to their recent phones. The Korean firm has already revealed when all its most of its more modern handsets will get it, here.Other companies like OnePlus have stated which devices will receive it:
Flagship series: 8T, 9, 9 Pro, 9R, 9RT, 10 Pro, 10T, 10R 11, 11R , Open
Nord series: Nord 2T, Nord 3
Nord CE series: Nord CE2 Lite, Nord CE3, Nord CE3 Lite
N series: N30

Ultra HDR (high dynamic range) photography is thought to be the ‘future’ of mobile photography.

It squashes the lightest tones and the darkest tones into a single, balanced but high-contrast image.

It’s unclear when other Android owners may start to benefit from this new feature via third-party apps, as it depends on both Google and individual developer timelines.
