If you don’t like spoilers, turn away now: a flood of information about the next iPhone 14 lineup has surfaced.

9to5Mac is reporting that its sources within Apple have confirmed several things about the upcoming phones, including the iPhone 14 mini not making an appearance at this year’s iPhone launch event (and the site has a pretty good track record with Apple insights, having correctly predicted the Mac Studio).

According to the insiders, we’ll see a 6.1- and 6.7-inch ‘basic’ model of iPhone (which would be the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max, respectively), as well as the rumored iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max.

However, as we revealed last week, Apple is said to be ditching the notch in favor of a pill and punch-hole display on the iPhone 14 Pro versions, which would necessitate them being significantly taller to accommodate the additional sensors.

Unfortunately for those hoping for parity in the iPhone 14 series, 9to5Mac’s sources have ‘confirmed’ analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s claim that there will be a split in the chipsets: the iPhone 14 and 14 Mac will get the A15 Bionic chip from last year, while the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will both get the much-vaunted A16 chip.

There’s also talk that Apple would include satellite communications in its iPhone 14 lineup — not to watch Netflix on space signals, but to provide emergency messaging and connections when you don’t have cell coverage.

Although this is unlikely to be a cheap alternative if it becomes a consumer service (although it will almost certainly be free in the event of an emergency, as phoning emergency services through any network is), it will be fascinating to see how Apple markets it.
