Fun, Food & Taste in Kigali!
I remember the first time I realized I enjoyed trying new food because it sparked new memories in my head, tas a cold Sunday in 2000 in Cyangugu, in the southern province of Rwanda a, visit ty new family.
The place was hot, I tried my first Pilau and fried fish. Masala tea taste got stuck in my mind, at I. don’t cook but I do like to explore new places, new dishes. My mind is held the Mombasa coast dishes, as I like to call them Swahili food!

A lot would try this dish with some cassava paste flour:” Ugali”.but I like it with my Soda!
Do you bring leftovers home? How much food goes in the trash?
there is no food going to trash. I try my best to not have leftovers.
How often do you go out to eat?
I am used to cooking at home.

Like 5 times in a week if I am not at school
How long does it take to get the perfect Instagram shot?
It can take at least 20 to 30 pic and then select the best.
What do you think of Rwandan Cuisine?
Rwandan cuisine is poor. We don’t have much recipe. I realized that most Rwanda eat the same food. Even though we have everything in the market.
What is your favorite local dish?
I love isombe
What would you advise someone who is scared to try new things?
How can you get new experience if you don’t try new things? It’s good to come out of yr comfort zone.
What is your favorite fruit?
I love mangoes!
What is the secret behind your selection of quality materials?
I don’t buy material and in my kitchen I use only basic materials.
What can you say about spiced foods?
Spices are like magic.it gives flavor to dishes. Spices are everything. I love spices.
Isombe Recipe
Ingredients
4 medium tomatoes
4 bunches green onions
1 bunch cilantro
1 garlic
1 Maggi seasoning
1 tablespoon black pepper
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon seasoning salt
1 lb soup bones
2 teaspoons peanut butter
1 lb palm oil
1 tablespoon black pepper
l 1 tablespoon garlic powder
l 1 tablespoon seasoning salt
l 1 lb soup bones
l 2 teaspoons peanut butter
l 1 lb palm oil
You can add meat 2kg minimum all depends on how you like them.
Total Time: 2 hrs
Prep Time: 30 min
Cook Time: 1 hr 30 min
Procedure
l Chop all the vegetables
l Meanwhile boil 6 cups of water with the soup bones and all condiments.
l Add cassava leaves and all the veggies except tomatoes when the water starts boiling.
l When water is almost drying out, add palm oil; let it cook and boil until the oil is almost evaporating.
l Add chopped tomatoes, boil until almost dry.
l Finally add peanut butter.
Isombe also often has a meaty flavor but no meat is used. To provide this flavor, beef stock from boiled bones is used. Chicken bones can be used as well for a vegan meal.
