The 9 Best Podcasts for Your Commute to Work

Need a break from listening to your co-worker talk about his wedding or to the train conductor trying to crack the same old jokes? Here are 9 great podcasts to listen to that are super duper refreshing. Listen to them while you get ready for work in the morning, peruse your Good&Co app, or whenever. In no particular order:

Anna Faris is Unqualified

Ever wonder what would happen if you put Rosé in a blender with a cozy sweater and that one gif that always makes you cry with laughter? I have no idea, tbh. But I’m pretty sure it would be something like Unqualified. Each week, everyone’s dream BFF Anna Faris and co-host Sim Sarna welcome a “Hollywood-type” into the studio (the studio = Anna’s dining room). Expect to hear anyone from Chelsea Handler to Lance Bass to Shaq (!) dive in for absurd games, “not-so-rapid-fire” questions, and glorious, guard-down tangents.

Come for the gut-busting improv, stay for shockingly candid discussions about the nature of fame and seriously poignant & powerful life advice– the second half of every episode is dedicated to taking calls from listeners with relationship woes, and they may not be qualified but DAMN are they good. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll cry-laugh. (Seriously. The podcast is so dangerously funny the hashtag “#unqualifiedneardeathtoll” has popped up for people who laughed so hard while listening they almost drove into a ditch/got fired/fell off the treadmill. PROCEED WITH CAUTION.)

2 Dope Queens

You’ll feel like a dope queen yourself while you listen to this podcast, laughing uncontrollably on the subway, grinning as you strut down the street, and LOLing while you surf the web.

The 2 Dope Queens, Phoebe Robinson and Jessica Williams, share stories about sex, romance, race, hair journeys, living in New York, and a whole bunch of other s**t. This podcast is recorded from live shows with hilarious stand-up comedians and some truly dope people.

Death, Sex & Money

This podcast, hosted by Ana Sale is all about the big questions and hard choices that are often left out of polite conversation. Anna Sale is willing to ask tough, intimate, serious, and silly questions to a number of guests who have amazing stories to share. This podcast has a strong community of listeners who can submit stories of their own in written form or as sound clips that are regularly included in the show. We recommend you check out the episode “When I Almost Died,” which gets real real, real fast.

Invisibilia

Invisibilia (Latin for invisible things) is all about the invisible forces that control human behavior — ideas, beliefs, assumptions and emotions. Co-hosted by Lulu Miller, Hanna Rosin, and Alix Spiegel, Invisibilia interweaves narrative storytelling with scientific research that will ultimately make you see your own life differently!

The Moth

Careful, you may find yourself sobbing on the subway or chuckling in the frozen foods aisle at Trader Joe’s. The Moth podcast compiles incredible and moving stories told live in front of an audience from amateurs and professionals alike. These short stories will amaze you with the array of unique characters, shenanigans, accidents, and events that everyday people have experienced.

StarTalk Radio

This space focused program hosted by the great Neil deGrasse Tyson brings pop culture and science together in an entertaining and informative podcast that will leave you with some answers, and many more questions about the inner workings of the universe. Trust us, it’s out of this world.

Mouth Time

This is a silly, dry podcast, dishing on the latest in fashion, pop culture, lifestyle, trends, and wardrobe malfunctions. With sassy catchphrases, huge special guests, silent hot guys, and bold life advice, Quenn and Div will give you everything you’ve come to expect from a women’s magazine in 2016.

War of the Worlds

This is the original podcast (radio drama) #throwbackthursday. “The War of the Worlds” was directed by Orson Welles, based on an H.G. Wells novel, and performed by The Mercury Theater on the Air on October 30, 1938. This story of an alien invasion told through news reports and witness accounts may or may not have caused mass hysteria among listeners. Plug in your earbuds and prepare for a gripping, dramatic tale of extraterrestrials taking control of Planet Earth. Please keep in mind, however that it is fiction, and that there is no need to panic!

Embedded

Hosted by Kelly McEvers, every episode of Embedded takes a story from the news and goes deep, interviewing people from around the world. Embedded gets real, exploring more than just statistics, but people’s feelings, personal stories, and hardships. No sugarcoating here.

Well, well, well, we sincerely hope you give some (all) of these podcasts a listen. Let them inspire you, let the smooth drawl of the podcaster take control, laugh, cry, and learn about the world around you. Happy listening!
